So here’s what I’ve been looking forward this month and I’m also pretty excited about it – the release of Kindle Alexander’s new novel under the “Nice Guys series” entitled “Full Disclosure.” For those of you who have not read the first book [Double Full] – it features Mitch Knox (who’s the MC in Full Disclosure), a secondary character shown at the latter part of said novel but don’t fret bb’s because this second book can be read as a stand-alone story. I thought it’d be great for you to grab a copy of the first book as well. Its expected publication is on September 16 as per Miss Alexander and don’t you just love that wickedly sexy cover? I almost cannot contain my excitement; I guess I’m still nursing my hangover from her previously released books and this one could really help my yearning for another “Always, Up In Arms, The Current Between Us, Texas Pride and Double Full” – whew! I mentioned them all I think. Hey’ since you’re reading this, why not read my reviews on these books and grab yourself a copy yeah?

Here’s the synopsis of Full Disclosure:

Deputy United States Marshal Mitch Knox apprehends fugitives for a living. His calm, cool, collected attitude and devastatingly handsome good looks earn him a well-deserved bad boy reputation, both in the field and out. While away on an assignment, he blows off some steam at a notorious Dallas nightclub. Solving the case that has plagued him for months takes a sudden backseat to finding out all there is to know about the gorgeous, shy blond sitting alone at the bar.

Texas State Trooper Cody Turner is moving up the ranks, well on his way to his dream of being a Texas Ranger. While on a two-week mandatory vacation, he plans to relax and help out on his family’s farm. Mitch is the last distraction Cody needs, but the tatted up temptation that walks into the bar and steals his baseball cap is too hard to ignore.

As Mitch’s case gains nationwide attention, how will he convince the sexy state trooper that giving him a chance won’t jeopardize his life’s plan…especially when the evil he’s tracking brings the hate directly to his doorstep, threatening more than just their careers. via goodreads

Book Review: Shaking The Sugar Tree – Nick Wilgus

20528976I wouldn’t say that I absolutely enjoyed reading this book but I thought the writing has a resounding quality of truth and the almost obtrusive frankness of its main character (Wylie) was very much refreshing.

I admire the book’s honesty and its shameless description of the South. Nick Wilgus created a genius character out of Wylie – witty, tactless and very forgiving.

In this book, I forged an alliance with Wylie and his son Noah. I rooted for them. I cried and sympathized with them and most of all, I’m proud of their sometimes bittersweet yet pure father and son relationship.

For me, a book is worth reading when you’re able to connect with the characters. This time, not only a connection was made but some sense of belonging. Noah represents authenticity and the book conveyed a message that resonates with the rest of us dealing with inequality. I’m up for that.

Review: There Be Dragons (2011)

via wikipedia

via wikipedia

One thing that I didn’t like about this film is that there are so many things happening in it. It was uninteresting at most parts and failed to deliver the theme at its maximum potential. The film focuses on forgiveness that inspects some aspect of life, its meaning and its purpose.

Robert is a journalist writing a book and is trying to reconcile with his dying father whom he interviewed for his project and discovered that he had been a close friend of Josemaria Escriva, the founder of the Opus Dei movement. The story went deep as Robert learned about the dark past of his father, reluctantly sharing the stories to his son. The story takes place during the Spanish Civil War that seemed to topple what good potentials the film promised at the beginning. The production was good but it was lackluster in execution. It didn’t quite lived up to its promise of grandeur and even the extras having parts in the film were quite terrible!

It was interesting to note that Charlie Cox who played Josemaria Escriva was quite impressive that you actually believe him and feel everything that he’s saying from his eyes. He was quite mesmerizing on the screen if I’m being honest.

The rest of the cast were just miscast-ed or perhaps shown in such a way that are not as believable as Cox. The film would have been great if (in my opinion) Wes Bentley’s character, Manolo was played by another actor like Gael Garcia Bernal. I just don’t see enough conviction from him and even Dougray Scott who played Robert was a total disappointment.

I’m not really sure what pushes me to watch this film. It was quite interesting in its trailer but was a total disaster in its entirety. The film was okay for like the first few minutes but it went downhill up to the last part of it. Perhaps, I wasn’t feeling nice when I watched it.

I thought those of you who adored Drew in Tangled would love to know that author Emma Chase have actually written some snippets after Tangled. It’s still pretty hilarious and Drew’s still our boy!!!

A friend from Goodreads recommended this book and I’m just over the moon right now (a good few hours) after reading the whole thing. This book is perfection in every level! Cameron Fletcher and Lucas Hensley, both advertising executives were given merely sixty five hours to come up with a campaign on a multimillion dollar project. Now both of them need to set aside their differences to seal the deal – and from there, they didn’t only settle their differences but also discovered that they actually have a lot in common. Cameron and Lucas are just oh-so-adorable! The book kinda reminds me of Tangled by Emma Chase. I got to say though, I love this better! I feel giddy while reading the book and I think I giggled with just about every page! The book is witty, sexy, honest and just effin’ brilliant! There’s no pretension, just pure honest-to-adulterated-goodness! They are such an amazing couple! Oh, I just love the sock fetish! That one was cute!!! This is my first read from N.R. Walker and I’m sure glad to have read this brilliant of a novel – and the good part is, it’s free!!!! OMG! I know right? Oh, well git it now HERE.

Book Review: Mark Cooper versus America – Lisa Henry & J. A. Rock

Mark Cooper vs AmericaMidway through this book, I was already thinking that this won’t end well but I was so wrong. It’s actually fucking golden. I specifically enjoyed the last half of the book because it was very fast-paced. I was sure glad that the author/s didn’t resort to rushing the characters the way some writers do it just to give it a happily-ever-after ending. This book was so realistic in so many levels.

Mark Cooper is a kinky Aussie teen dragged to America by his mum who re-marry and was forced to live the American way. Now in college, Mark found himself pledging for a fraternity which he didn’t care at all if only to please his mum and her new husband.

There, he meets the smart, responsible and gorgeous Deacon who is a member of the rival fraternity he’s pledging. Things aren’t that complicated as it seems even if they found themselves in the midst of frat-rivalry. It was rather complicated because it’s more than that – it’s how both of them will be handle what they have.

I thought Mark’s character is just LOVE. He’s sweet, witty and just oh so sexy. I loved the fact that he’s also shameless and so young. Deacon on the other hand was almost the opposite of Mark when it comes to personality so with that, they’re certainly a good fit. In the scope of things, I love that the author/s didn’t resort in an ideal ending but rather a more succinct and honest delivery involving the main characters’. This was rather a surprising read for me and I’m glad that I went through it all the way.

Book Review: Nowhere Ranch – Heidi Cullinan

Blurb: Love will grow through the cracks you leave open.

Ranch hand Roe Davis absolutely never mixes business with pleasure—until he runs into his boss, Travis Loving, at the only gay bar within two hundred miles.

Getting involved with the ranch owner is a bad idea, but Roe’s and Travis’s bedroom kinks line up against one another like a pair of custom-cut rails. As long as they’re both clear this is sex on the side, no relationship, no interfering with the job, they could make it work.

Shut out by his family years ago, Roe survived by steadfastly refusing to settle into so much as a post office box. As his affair with Travis grows into more than just sex, Roe’s past catches up with him, threatening the thin ray of happiness he’s found, reminding him it’s well past time he went on his way.

But even a loner gets lonely, and at this point, there’s nowhere left to run. The shame and sorrow of what he’s lost will stay with Roe wherever he goes—until he’s ready to let love lead him home.

Here, Roe told us from the onset how he finally found his “home,” but not before informing us how his family discovered his homosexuality. It was pretty painful like I couldn’t even fathom what it could do to someone like him or anyone, especially after your family threatened to kick you out if you remained to be “true” to yourself. That’s just so wrong in so many ways. You can’t choose what you are. Maybe you can decide how you live, but you are what you are—trying to be someone doesn’t do it at the end of the day. Going back to Roe, as he narrates how he got to Nowhere Ranch – we found out that he’s been working from farmland to farmland and does not like staying at one place. Less attachment, less pain for him. Then he met Travis Loving, the owner of Nowhere Ranch, who’s got a secret of his own which excites Roe, and soon, the two have forged a relationship that somehow worked both for them.

I almost planned on not finishing this book because I’m not big on M/M stories involving BDSM, but in actuality, the whole BDSM fiasco plays little importance to the book’s merits. Without reservation, Roe Davis’s story was honest and poignant that it echoed so much truth, so much passion, and a lot of mixed emotions. It’s simply unforgettable.

Book Review: Starfish and Coffee – Kele Moon

via goodreads

I decided to read this book because of its stellar reviews and I was not disappointed at all. The premise itself was enticing enough for me to dive into the beautiful island of Mirabella. It tells the story of Alex and Matt, growing up world’s apart but close enough in the small but alluring confines of the island of Mirabella. Although both closeted, they have found the comfort from each other and discovered love and the beauty of it. It is not however all rainbows and butterflies because when lies, deception and even the judgment of youth takes over – love does not seem to stand a chance at all.

I love these kinds of stories – it’s relaxed, the drama’s high but it delivers at the same time. I love Matt and Alex’s characters. They’re the characters you usually see in soap operas – the ones that you’d be rooting for. I thought the whole flashback was a bit too long but its more than welcomed. I just find it a bit anti-climactic at the end because I wished there was more into their reunion. It was still good though, I mean who doesn’t love a happy ending after all?

Book Review: Second Chances – T.A. Webb

via goodreads

via goodreads

This book was a very difficult read for me. I’ve had a hard time going through it all. It was a bit gloomy at the beginning, sorrowful midway and I’m glad that it turned out to have a very beautiful ending. It centers on Mark Jennings in the midst of his job in a non-profit organization, his dying mother, his crazy shit but loving family, his boyfriend Brian and his masseur-turned-best friend Antonio. I guess what I’m trying to say when I said that it was very difficult for me to read this book was that I feel like reading a part of me in Mark. My mom passed away in 2010 due to kidney failure and that moment when Mark’s mom (who’s got liver failure) asked to be taken home – I almost got that same heartbreak and it stopped me on my tracks. I was thinking if I should push through with this. You know these simple things that you’re doing such as listening to a song or this time in my case, reading a book then you’d be reminded of someone so dear to you and you’d find yourself in a flashback of things. It was heartbreaking for me and yes – I did cry. That feeling of losing does not go away. You just learn to deal with it overtime. And then when I thought that I could go on with the rest of the book came Brian’s untimely yet anticipated death. That’s just beyond for me. I took a moment to absorb it. That was one of the most heartbreaking scenes I’ve read in a while. The eulogy almost broke me. Whenever I’m reading, I’d like to be accompanied by music and it was just so fitting when Fix You by Coldplay played out during the hospital scene when Mark has to let go of Bryan. That was hard for me and writing this still makes me tear up. I’m such a crybaby but I don’t really give a shit. This book was written beautifully and was very realistic for that matter. The friendship that sprung between Mark and Antonio was also very much welcomed and it was heartwarming how these two were given second chances to chase life, to chase their dreams and to experience a whole new kind of love. The character of Mark was strong, stable, a firecracker and someone with a good soul. T.A. Webb created a beautiful, wonderfully woven story that will give you a glimpse on how he sees life and share it through his writing. I’m forever touched by this book. It was a really amazing read. Thank you Mr.Webb!
