America’s Next Top Model Cycle 24 Episode 5 – Beauty Sandwich Photoshoot

Now, this episode I absolutely loved! And let’s just get straight to the point – Coura may have been one of the strongest models in the house and she’s lagging behind this past few weeks so I’d say it’s hard, but it’s fair (ugh, as much as Liberty still irks me)

In this episode, we get to see the remaining 11 models work with YouTuber Patrick Starr (who’s coming to Manila soon) in a beauty vlog which Sandra surprisingly won. Haha! Sorry, couldn’t resist!

The shoot was a beauty shoot where the models faces were stacked on top of one another and it’s actually one of the best shoot this season if I may say (already I’ve already said the same thing last episode. LOL)

Brendi, Khrystyana and Liberty

Brendi K. killed this shot for me. The other two were like mere accessories.

Christina, Erin and Shanice

I’m not liking this one bit if I’m being honest. Christina and Erin looks like they just woke up. Shanice on the other hand was giving me Cycle 12 winner Teyona Anderson vibes.

Jeana, Coura and Rio

Well, Rio deserved her spot. Although I do think the other two deserved to stay longer.

Kyla, Ashley and Sandra

Well, look at this! They look equally stunning here. Glad that Ashley didn’t steal the show from these two!

Cover Thursday: Sufjan Stevens’ Mystery of Love by Elisa Jane

Since “Call Me By Your Name” just had its commercial release last week in Manila, I thought of featuring this beautiful and haunting song by singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens from the movie. But since this is a Cover Thursday, I present to you Elisa Jane’s wonderful cover of the song.

Enjoy!

Timothée Chalamet on the Cover of VMAN Magazine

Hollywood’s next big thing Timothée Chalamet is on his way to possibly becoming the youngest winner of the Oscars’ Lead Actor category this year given that he was able to sway the voters away from perennial favorite Gary Oldman.

As the youngest Oscar nominee for Best Actor in nearly 80 years, our cover star Timothée Chalamet is redefining the role of the leading man. Photographed by Collier Schorr, styled by Robbie Spencer, and interviewed by both Frank Ocean and Xavier Dolan, Chalamet details his upbringing in New York, working with Luca Guadagnino, his relationship with Armie Hammer, and the realities of love and pain. America’s Next Top Model Cycle 24 Episode 4 – American Horror Story

The official title of the episode is “Beauty is Drama” and the shoot was inspired by American Horror Story hence the title of this blog post.

The brief is about becoming scary yet fierce at the same time. I think so far, this is my favorite shoot to date but gaaah, I can only name two who made me think that they could be in a magazine editorial and that is Brendi K and Christina – the rest are just meh for me.

Brendi K.

She’s definitely getting stronger each week! She looks a bit short here but that face!

Christina

This is fierce to the Nth level!!! Mama Ty approves!

Coura

Erin

Yikes!

Jeana

Khrystyana

Kyla

This is actually scary!

Liberty

In all fairness to Liberty, she’s really working it.

Rhiyan

Rio

Sandra

Shanice

We do not have Liz’s picture here because girl couldn’t handle it and quit the game!

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 24 Episode 3 – The Makeovers!

In this episode, the remaining 14 models were each given a signature trademark that would hopefully set them apart from everyone. Again, there’s the usual drama which I honestly couldn’t stand because they all knew what the’ve signed up for.

Brendi K.

I absolutely loved this look! It made her non-boring!

Christina

Not very sure about the hair color but Christina is one of my favorites this cycle so I’m giving her a pass here.

Coura

Coura looks amazing but she’s a very weak model, IMO. Just putting it out there.

Erin

She’s always safe. She’s not showing me anything new. I think she needs to go soon.

Jeana

My favorite make-over, most definitely!

Khrystyana

Is she really better than Tocarra? Nah.

Kyla

Another favorite of mine! I adore her duck lips! She reminds me of the models of early 2000’s.

Liberty

I don’t get her. I mean, I still don’t get her. I don’t give a hoot about her FCO. I still think that she’s very pedestrian.

Liz

Guuurrr…

Rhiyan

Is this still a thing now?  Loved her look but not the hair, tbh.

Rio

Delish makeover! Wow!!!

Sandra

She really look like an actress or a beauty queen!

Shanice

I really thought Shanice should’ve left along with Ivana but I guess potential-wise, she still has a lot to give.

We all knew that Ivana won’t make it past the the top 10 based on the caliber of her competition. I mean, she looked absolutely smashing during the shoot but being pretty just won’t cut it. No shade. Just tea.

Ivana

Bye girl!

Save the date, folks and catch your favorite Binibini as they showcase their talent on February 10, 3PM at Farmers Plaza in Araneta Center, Cubao!

Cover Thursday: Troye Sivan’s The Good Side by Sneha

This is by far my favorite cover of Troye Sivan’s new single “The Good Side” I loved the simplicity of Sneha’s voice as well as the intimacy of the use of the ukulele to accompany this heartbreaking song.

“The Good Side” available now: https://TroyeSivan.lnk.to/TheGoodSideYd

Written by Troye Sivan, Leland, Bram Inscore, Allie X, Ariel Rechtshaid, and Jack Latham
Produced by Ariel Rechshaid, Bram Inscore, and Jam City

LYRICS:
I got the good side of things,
Left you with both of the rings,
My fingers danced,
And swayed in the breeze,
The change in the wind took you down to your knees

I got the good side of you,
Sent it out into the blue,
The people danced,
To the sound of your heart,
The world sang along to it falling apart

But I sympathise,
And I recognise,
And baby, I apologise,
That I got the good side,
The good side of things

I got the good side of life,
Travelled the universe twice,
So many thoughts I wanted to share,
But I didn’t call because it wouldn’t be fair

Then I got the good side of new,
Found arms to fall right into,
I know how it looked, It wasn’t the plan,
And someday I hope that you’ll understand,

That I sympathise,
And I recognise,
And baby, I apologise,
That I got the good side,
The good side of things

I’m sure we’ll meet in the spring,
And catch up on everything,
I’ll say I’m proud of all that you’ve done,
You taught me the ropes, and you taught me to love

But I sympathise,
And I recognise,
And baby, I apologise,
That I got the good side,
The good side of things

Sympathise,
Recognise,
Apologise,
That I got the good side,
The good side of things

Book Review: Bared To You (Crossfire, #1) – Sylvia Day

Published: April 3, 2012
Publisher: Berkley
Format: Novel
Genre And Themes: New Adult, Romance, Erotic, Abuse
Length: 334 pages, Paperback
Ebook ISBN/ASIN: 0425276767 (ISBN13: 9780425276761)
Characters: Gideon Cross, Eva Tramell

I started this with an expectation of getting just another version of Anna and Christian, only with different names. Here, we have Gideon who’s a billionaire and is even more intense when it comes to his ‘lady love’ (Eva) ugh. I know. It’s inexcusable to use that but he kinda creeped me out a little so I am using creepy descriptions. Hah!

Kidding aside, I actually liked this couple more. I loved that there’s a balance of power between them. I loved that Eva has such a strong personality despite her past.

I also loved the power she exudes and use against Gideon. Unlike Anna, Eva isn’t a damsel in distress waiting to be saved. She’s feisty and she knows exactly what she wants and how to get them.

One of my criticisms about the story is its repetitivenes with Eva running away from Gideon for like three times in the story and Gideon chasing after her, groveling to take him back. It also felt a bit rushed. Here, we’ve got the “other women” namely Magdalene and Corrine, then we’re introduced to the evil brother, the weird family and the whole enchilada of characters that I honestly didn’t care about.

I actually want more scenes where they are actually conversing and not just having an overflowing amount of sexy times. I mean, it is one of the focal points of this book but can they at least get to know each other a bit well and not have everything about each other be a big deal because they didn’t even bother to say hi before actually doing it.

I am not complaining but I’m expecting the second book to be more developed, plot-wise.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

My January 2018 Book Haul!

I promised myself that I would try minimizing my book purchases this year and be more vigilant on book sale and promos! Hah! So for this month, I’ve acquired five books which got me busy for the first three weeks of the year. I was so engrossed with The House of the Scorpion* whose review I just posted earlier tonight as well as the disappointing I’ll Give You The Sun*.

I am currently reading Number The Stars by Lois Lowry and once I finished this, I’d try to reread one of my favorite books in 2015 – Wolf by Wolf* so I could start Blood by Blood as soon as possible! So exciting!

I bought The House of the Scorpion from PowerBooks and the rest are from Fully Booked. Big thanks to Fully Booked for carrying Ryan Graudin’s Wolf by Wold Duology! ❤

Binibining Pilipinas 2018 Specials: My Top 6 First Hot Picks

I’ve been going back and forth with my first hot picks and finally decided with this list.

Catriona Gray is easily the most recognizable for pageant fans and pundits all over the world. By joining the biggest national pageant in the land, she’s as good as secured, with one of the national crowns at stake. If the finals were to happen tomorrow, the biggest tragedy would be denying her the Miss Universe Philippines crown. This makes Catriona the one to beat at this point.

Michelle Gumabao isn’t new to the spotlight. Being the celebrity daughter of Denis Roldan and one of the top volleyball players in the country, it is easy for her to play the camera. Her height is one of her advantages, and like Catriona, whose gift for gab is unbeatable, Michelle comes second, adding new admirers as her Binibining Pilipinas journey unfolds. She is my alternate MUP contender.

Vickie Rushton, at this point, is slowly gaining momentum as the prime candidate for the Binibining Pilipinas—International crown. All the girls may be targeting the MUP sash, but if Vickie’s dream is to represent the country in this Japan-based major pageant, then the title is hers to lose at this point.

Sandra Lemonon’s face is flawless. She’s Isabela Manjon Version 2, but way prettier. She’s also very articulate, but I find her styling a bit bland. Nevertheless, she’s one of the strongest girls in the competition. For now, I will be assigning her as my Bb.Pilipinas-Supranational!

Karen Gallman is the strongest repeater this year, and six years after her first attempt for the crown, it is easy to see how she’s grown more confident with the way she carries herself. My only hesitation in putting her higher than my first four is her height. She’s short, and she looks short. But hey, if Olivia Culpo could win Miss Universe with that face, Karen’s nothing to sneer about. She is my Miss Globe Philippines for now.

Muriel Orais wasn’t even on my radar until I saw her web interview a week ago. This girl is oozing with simple elegance. I loved the vulnerability I saw in that video, and she speaks pretty well! She actually reminded me of Stephanie Retuya from Asia’s Next Top Model Season 1. For now, she’s one of my top contenders, and I am delegating her as my Miss Intercontinental, succeeding Katarina Rodriguez.

Who are your top picks for the Binibining Pilipinas crowns?
