You’ve probably seen Fergie’s viral rendition of the Star-spangled Banner during the NBA All-Star Game last Sunday where she infused the US national anthem with her very own and very Fergilicious style. Uh, no. I’m not going to discuss that at length. She already apologized (I sincerely don’t know why she had to) but anyway, I just want to pay homage to my girl Fergie by featuring one of her hit songs as a solo act with our Cover Thursday this week – Big Girls Don’t Cry!
This version is an acoustic one from Peter Carboni. He sang it real good. And he’s cute too! Hah!
This one’s here is one of the oldies but goodies songs of Taylor Swift back when she was still “the old Taylor Swift” and apparently, the dead one now. This is also probably one of my favorite songs of TayTay aside from Tim McGraw. I’ve been watching several covers this week and thought that it’d be interesting to hear a male cover version of it and I think I’ve just found the best one with Drew Jenkinson tweaking the song which I thought made it waaay better! And it was made a decade ago!!!!
Since “Call Me By Your Name” just had its commercial release last week in Manila, I thought of featuring this beautiful and haunting song by singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens from the movie. But since this is a Cover Thursday, I present to you Elisa Jane’s wonderful cover of the song.
This is by far my favorite cover of Troye Sivan’s new single “The Good Side” I loved the simplicity of Sneha’s voice as well as the intimacy of the use of the ukulele to accompany this heartbreaking song.
Written by Troye Sivan, Leland, Bram Inscore, Allie X, Ariel Rechtshaid, and Jack Latham Produced by Ariel Rechshaid, Bram Inscore, and Jam City
LYRICS:
I got the good side of things,
Left you with both of the rings,
My fingers danced,
And swayed in the breeze,
The change in the wind took you down to your knees
I got the good side of you,
Sent it out into the blue,
The people danced,
To the sound of your heart,
The world sang along to it falling apart
But I sympathise,
And I recognise,
And baby, I apologise,
That I got the good side,
The good side of things
I got the good side of life,
Travelled the universe twice,
So many thoughts I wanted to share,
But I didn’t call because it wouldn’t be fair
Then I got the good side of new,
Found arms to fall right into,
I know how it looked, It wasn’t the plan,
And someday I hope that you’ll understand,
That I sympathise,
And I recognise,
And baby, I apologise,
That I got the good side,
The good side of things
I’m sure we’ll meet in the spring,
And catch up on everything,
I’ll say I’m proud of all that you’ve done,
You taught me the ropes, and you taught me to love
But I sympathise,
And I recognise,
And baby, I apologise,
That I got the good side,
The good side of things
Sympathise,
Recognise,
Apologise,
That I got the good side,
The good side of things
For my Cover Thursday this week, I’ll be featuring this medley by Andre van Drunen singing all of the song’s in Lorde’s latest release, Melodrama. It is also a way for me to honor said album because it only got a single Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. Seriously, what a travesty! I thought Lorde will be lording over the Grammy next year!
Listen to Andre’s awesome cover of the album and don’t forget to subscribe!!!
So, Spencer just posted this a couple of days ago on his official Youtube channel and I don’t think I am the only one here who thinks that he deserves to stay longer in the X Factor. But it’s over now and the good thing that came off of it is that we discovered this super amazing vocalist that we didn’t even know existed who’s actually been doing music for a while now! How’s that?
Here’s Spencer’s take on Sam Smith’s comeback single, Too Good At Goodbyes.
Here’s my third and final Cover Thursday posts for this week in honor of my girl, Britney’s Blackout 10th year Anniversary! This song is fucking fabulous and one of Britney’s best songs ever!
Here’s a very interesting take of Matthew McPeck to the song published in 2009! I really, really liked it!
Okay, so this isn’t actually a cover but the very demo of the song sung by Keri Hilson who wrote the song herself along with Nate Hills, Marcella Araica and James Washington.
This is actually one of my favorite tracks in the Blackout album! Also, don’t you just loved its music video?
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Britney’s Blackout album – considered by fans and critics alike to be her best album to date – I am posting multiple Cover Thursday posts!
This first one is Sia’s version of Blackout’s first single – Gimme More!
