Book Review: The Possession of Lawrence Eugene Davis – E.E. Ottoman

The Possession of Lawrence Eugene DavisI love me some historical fiction every now and then. I’m not the biggest fan of the genre but when I come across with something like this story, I am more than happy to share how I enjoyed such work. The story takes place at the beginning of the Great Depression as Lawrence Eugene Davis returns to his family’s ranch to set his father’s affairs in order. Arriving at his childhood home, unpleasant memories bounced back along with his miserable time in the trenches. With these unhappy thoughts comes the untoward incident from a sinister presence that haunted him upon his first night in the house.

When a stranger suddenly showed up claiming he can get rid of the demon possessing him. Lawrence has no choice but to agree, only he has to offer himself as the price.

I totally enjoyed reading this novella because it has all the good elements of a horror / paranormal read adding to the apt description of the period it was set in. I figured out from the start that Lawrence will get involved with their ranch hand Billy and I was slightly surprise that it’s not just Billy who will be “romantically (?) / sexually” involved with him. So there folks, this one’s actually a ménage between two humans and an incubus! Exciting right?! I mean, the dynamic between them was so good and just oh-so-sexy that I find myself yearning for more. That’s the only downside I could think of in this story. I want more scenes with the three of them in it!

The paranormal aspect of the story was easily dealt with from the very first possession up to the main instigator of it. There was not much fuss going on with the possession and it was easily resolved at the end so the story’s mostly telling rather than showing but in a really good way.

I loved it when I get a free book to review and it’s just so good, I feel like I should’ve paid for it in the first place! So if you’re up for a paranormal / historical ménage read, then this one’s for you!

About The Author
E.E. Ottoman is a geek and a gentleman. They spends their time mostly in libraries doing research, and sometimes, when there is no one else there, dancing in the aisles. E. has always adored speculative fiction, especially paperback fantasy and science fiction. They loves a good ghost story and thinks every story becomes automatically better if you add tentacles. Overall, though, they just loves a story that is fun to read. E. is especially fond of writing and reading stories with geeky, queer people doing awesome and sexy things.

They grew up in the woods, farmlands and mountains of upstate New York and has spent most of their adult life trying to spend as much time as possible back there. They are the oldest of four and can often be found actively engaged in hijinks with their three other siblings. E.E. Ottoman has two degrees in history, another one in law, and one very spoiled princess cat. E. would like to be a history professor or maybe just a professional author one day, only time will tell.

When not writing, E. loves to cook and looking dapper in menswear. E. is an avid powerlifter and can often be found at the gym trying to hit a new max weight.

E. identifies as a queer, nonbinary, trans dude and is actively trying to change the world (and maybe the past) one novel and work of history at a time.

[Trailer] “Life” | A James Dean Biopic Starring Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan

LifeFilmmaker Anton Corbijn directed the new biopic called Life starring Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan. The film will depict James Dean’s relationship with Life Magazine photographer Dennis Stock when he was still “just” Jame Dean and not the global icon we’ve come to know.  The film actually had its premier in early February of this year at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival.

Dane DeHaan (you might remember him as Harry Osborn / Green Goblin in the Amazing SpiderMan 2) will be playing the iconic role and Pattison as Stock. I’m not exactly sure about DeHaan playing the role but I guess he’s okay and the uncanny resemblance seen in the newly release trailer was there.

I wonder if this is the James Dean version of “My Week With Marilyn.” Needless to say, I am very excited to see this film!!! Watch its trailer below.

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 22 – Episode 2 The Girl Who Walks Away [RECAP]

The Models with the Property BrothersThis is just a quick one since it’s not that much of an episode but fun nevertheless.

So what’s talk-worthy about this episode you ask?

The models that made it last week were to meet the Property Brothers at the Top Model House which they decorated. The first challenge is a pose-off in pairs with the winner receiving all access to the Tyra suite and it was not even a surprise to me that Mamé won the challenge!

Mame and Mikey

Gawd, again Mame’s just WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY, TOO GORGEOUS!!!!

Then Hadassah calls for a house meeting getting all HBIC. I was rolling my eyes at this. Cmon’ baby girl – don’t be the bitch of this cycle please. Then there’s Lacey – I so want a catfight to ensue! LOL

The semi-nude shoot the following day was rather blah IMO. Not much of an event. One which I could totally understand since it’s not even the final fourteen yet. The shoot will determine the final models that will compete for the title.

BTW, massive lol @ Mr. Heverly – what a total horndog! LOLS. Mikey’s one of my favorites in the competition looks-wise and I’m actually loving his personality more and more!!! Cocky, confident and just plain doofus!

Then there’s Devin! Man’ this guy – too intense man’ – just way too intense!!! And Bello  – gaaahhh catfight galore!!! I dunno who I liked more as a model and as a person “on tv.”

Stefano – Mr. Meanie isn’t winning fans over with his attitude. So Stop. Just Now. Being MEAN.

Next episode we’ll see the announcement of the final 14 after the crazy runway challenge set up this espiode.

I honestly don’t know why they’re taking the whole elimination thing way too long since we already know who made the top 14…Hmmm.

Mikey Mame Stefano

Nyle Justin Dustin

Ashley Courtney Delanie

Lacey Ava Hadassah

p.s.

Oh, about this episode’s title? Semi-finalist Alexa had to leave which idc about at all.

Book Review: In the Hours of Darkness (No Man’s Land #1) – Tygati

In the Hours of Darkness (No Man's Land #1)Charlie Colcord is the sheriff of the frontier planet No Man’s Land a.k.a. Noman. He’s the protector of the people of Deadwood Gulch along with his fellow riders – why riders? Well, they do have dragons as their main weapon to combat the deadly creatures inhabiting the Noman Mountains.

Only Charlie has a secret that his fierce and loyal dragon Zorevan could only ever understand.

So what I’ve just written above was probably a bit vague because I really don’t want to divulge any more information since this was a fairly quick read with only 10,000 words in it but I’m telling you guys, every single word in the story, I totally  ate up. I loved the whole world building, which reminds me a bit of Pandora from the movie Avatar only set in a desert ala Mad Max – and yes, with dragons!  I super adore Charlie and his dragon Zorevan – like, I’m super in love with their relationship! There was a bit of action in here but nothing that changes the plot from the beginning to end. This first book is basically an introduction of Charlie, his dragon and the whole Deadwood Gulch’s inhabitants.

I am now very excited to learn more about how Zorevan “found/claimed” Charlie in the first place. How did he exactly become the sheriff instead of his cousin Jack? Does Mayor Burke have the hots for Charlie? What is to become of Jeremy “Troublemaker” Jasper in the future? Jeez, so many possibilities for this series! I just hope that the author will be consistent in writing the vibrancy of her story and its characters! Super highly recommended this one is!

About The Author
Tygati’s head is filled with sunshine, rainbows, sparkly things, and dragons. The dragons get out from time to time but they always make their way home in the end, although sometimes not without a bit of a struggle.

Tygati lives with one fabulous Mikey who does excellent hair and regularly questions her fashion choices, along with two balls of hyperactive feline fur who pointedly do not answer to their names of Wasabi and Princess Buttercup and like to “help” the writing process by walking across and sleeping on the keyboard.

Tygati writes all her stories for her friends, both the ones she holds dear to her heart and the ones she hasn’t met yet.

Book Review: Storytime – K. Lynn

StorytimeIt has been hard for sci-fi writer James Murphy to move on since the death of his partner a year ago. But at the urging of his agent, he volunteered for a weekly storytime at a local library as a way to start socializing again. This is where he meets the children’s librarian, David.

David is twenty-five years younger and has the exuberance that James was attracted to. What started out as friendship turns into romance. Will James be able to leave the past behind and moved on to a future with a promise of a second chance at love?

This endearing short story is a fun read that will put a smile on your face. It’s an easy read where it’s futile to ask the question how will they be able to put both of their past behind and just go on and be in love.  It’s a natural occurrence after all to search for human comfort and both David and James found that with each other. As simple as that.

I’m not even bothered with David reminding James of his former beau. Like, would I ask if it’s simply a rebound thing? Nah – fortunately, I didn’t. That happens right? I believe that the heart can love as many people as they want – sappy I know, but it’s true.

I personally would’ve liked a longer version of this but I think the ending gave a perfect note implying what the future will be ahead of them.

A lovely read indeed.

About The Author
K. Lynn has been an avid reader and writer since childhood. In her youth, she could most likely be found in the local library, devouring books that covered everything from WWII History to Dr. McCoy’s latest adventures aboard the Enterprise, with some X-Men thrown in for good measure. Lynn’s work features LGBT characters, many of whom are in established relationships and show how love perseveres through every trial and tribulation that life holds. She also has a particular interest in seeing transgender characters gain a larger foothold within the LGBT fiction genre, hoping that the market for these works expand in the future.

Film Review: Triple Standard – An LGBTQ Short Film (2010)

Triple StandardTriple Standard is a short film about Crim, a homophobic ex-professional athlete who’s in denial of the reality of his situation as a gay man which he refuses to acknowlegde telling his partner of three years, D that he is in fact bisexual – even insisting that they are both bisexuals. (I mean, in the scope of things…)

The movie started with Crim, D, Stanley and their friends in the locker room after a friendly game of basketball. When Stanley messes with Crim (William Jennings) licking his armpit, Crim went berserk spewing a litany of homophobic remarks. At the shower room, Crim was still seething with some of their friends noticing D (Lee Amir-Cohen) being quiet through it all. When D went home after the incident, Crim was anxiously waiting in the living room. It turns out that they have actually been living together for years now. Crim’s denial towards his sexuality, even acknowledging his “standards” that they have talked about before left D hurting thus issuing an ultimatum to end their relationship if Crim will not stop and face reality.

I very much enjoyed watching this short film because it totally depicts the reality of most closeted men (most especially the ones in the spotlight) where they would rather deny themselves the freedom to acknowledge what they are than be condemned by the cruel and unforgiving society.

Coming from D’s point of view, it’s really hard to be with someone that basically denies what you have. It gets to a point where enough is enough. And from Crim – well, reality sucks big time. At the end of the day though, why should they let others run their lives? I guess that’s too easy to say from someone who isn’t not in their shoes.

The actors who played Crim and D are both likable. I can just feel the hurt pouring out of Amir-Cohen throughout those latter scenes. Jennings was equally impressive! They really do have great chemistry and I won’t mind seeing them together on screen again.

Do spare 20 minutes of your time to watch this short film for free, I promised that it won’t go to waste.

Book Review: Tonight – Karen Stivali

TonightThis story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group’sLove is an Open Road” event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

Here is the letter and a description of the photo that accompanied this prompt:

Dear Author,
See the hot jock sitting on top of me? He’s my older brother’s team mate and I’ve lusted after him— and loved him— since forever. I never thought I’d have a chance though. That dumbass brother of mine always said he was straight. But look at the way he’s giving the phrase “He takes my breath away” a whole new meaning! My brother must be wrong. Please, dear author, let him be wrong and make my dream come true.

§§§

Now this is really, really, like really good. This even surpassed the author’s Moments In Time trilogy because I feel that the characters here are more vibrant, more likable and the story was just smooth from start to finish. It would be great to have some more of Davey and Wiley in the future! It’s a quick read but every inch enjoyable! This is highly recommended if you want to get a feel of Miss Stivali’s writing style.

Book Review: Guardians Of The Haunted Moor (Tyack & Frayne #5) – Harper Fox

Guardians Of The Haunted Moor (Tyack & Frayne #5)There are only a handful of series that really maintained their consistency from the very first book up to their current / last release and one of them is the Tyack & Frayne series created by one of my most admired authors, Harper Fox.

In this book, Harper Fox took us back to the Bodmin Moor of the Dark village from the very first book where Sargeant Gideon Frayne and his husband Lee Tyack are now settling well and good after their wedding with their dog Isolde and their lovely baby girl Tamsyn. Their domestic bliss was halted when a shocking family event took place leaving our boys gasping for something to hold on into and if that’s not enough, the legend about the Bodmin beast resurfaced resulting to murder prompting Gideon and Lee to gather all their resources to find the killer.

As expected, Harper Fox delivered something that is nothing short of perfect! As usual, there’s the vivid description of the Dark village that will transport you to the place itself. This is where Harper Fox really excel the most – her lyrical storytelling will lull you into somberness and be hypnotized by her story in return.

I loved how rock-solid the relationship of Gid and Lee now like there’s nothing anyone can do to break them. They’re so in sync in every way including the paranormal stuff going on between them. I also loved how awfully realistic the scenario about Elowen and their baby. Gideon was mad and he’s every right to be and I loved that about his character. Despite his almost too forgiving nature, he’s still very human after all. I was actually very pissed with that situation but knowing the author, I don’t think she would leave her readers unsettled with the issue and naturally, she didn’t. I was relieved but still wanted to strangle Lee’s sister just the same.

There was no big twist here. It’s all very perfunctory regarding the Bodmin beast and catching the killer. What we got here instead was the strong connection between Gid and Lee through the years. We got a tour of how they’re living their marital life and a glimpse of their future.

Again, what a beautiful story from Miss Fox. I hope this isn’t the last book in the series.

Thank you, Harper Fox!

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 22 – Episode 1 The Guys and Girls Make It to Hollywood [RECAP]

Episode 1 ANTMYa’ll know I’m a sucker for this show ^^ I love me some mama TyTy so of course I still watch the show since Adrianne took the title back in 2003. So we’re now at the 22nd cycle and the show will surely go on and on as opposed to news of it being the last one. This is also the third cycle that includes boys in it – yes, admit it. It’s more fun with them boys in it yeah? It will also be the first time that the show will have its first deaf contestant namely the uber-gorg Nyle DiMarco!!!

The Judges

So the show premiered yesterday (or the fifth) and it was just the selection of who will be making the cut. The guys and girls were interviewed by the panel of judges which still consist of Tyra, Kelly Cutrone, Miss J Alexander and Yu Tsai as the creative director for two consecutive cycle now.

The aspiring contestants displayed their runway skills at the red-carpet catwalk!

Some of the models whom I really liked this episode:

Nyle – he’s also the first guy to meet with the judges! He’s totally killing this first episode! I can already see a final four placement for him!!! He’s just so charming! Disability or not. He’s totally got me!

MameAt the confessional, Mame wowed me the best. This girl looks awesome! No wonder she placed 4th from the recently concluded Miss USA! She must look effervescent in person! Seriously girl, you are crazy beautiful!

And Lacey! Super fun Lacey! And she just announced on national TV that she’s still got the V-card!

I really feel so bad for Ashley though but her picture was pure LOVE.

Mikey’s cocky and all but he looks awesome in pictures and in motion!

Dustin McNeerAnd Dustin! Damn. Good looking and likable and the only guy I’m seeing could outbest Nyle in the competition.

And the ones I didn’t like at all – Stefano and Bryant. Bryant sounds like a nice guy from his social media accounts but here, he acted too narcissistic and Stefano = JUST NO. He’s got some serious issue (this cycle’s villain perhaps?) Ugh. At least Bryant didn’t make it but Stefano, I am disappointed with him this episode.

And in line with the crazies that is the top model we all love, at the end of the episode – the contestants were asked to jumped in a foamy pool and grab a ball where they will see their names in it if they actually made the cut! Whoops!

It was a short episode but enjoyable nonetheless!!! I’m so looking forward to the next episode!!!!!
