Book Review: Tonight – Karen Stivali

TonightThis story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group’sLove is an Open Road” event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

Here is the letter and a description of the photo that accompanied this prompt:

Dear Author,
See the hot jock sitting on top of me? He’s my older brother’s team mate and I’ve lusted after him— and loved him— since forever. I never thought I’d have a chance though. That dumbass brother of mine always said he was straight. But look at the way he’s giving the phrase “He takes my breath away” a whole new meaning! My brother must be wrong. Please, dear author, let him be wrong and make my dream come true.

§§§

Now this is really, really, like really good. This even surpassed the author’s Moments In Time trilogy because I feel that the characters here are more vibrant, more likable and the story was just smooth from start to finish. It would be great to have some more of Davey and Wiley in the future! It’s a quick read but every inch enjoyable! This is highly recommended if you want to get a feel of Miss Stivali’s writing style.

Prior to deciding to write full time Karen worked as a hand drawn animator, a clinical therapist, and held various food-related jobs ranging from waitress to specialty cake maker. Planning elaborate parties and fundraisers takes up what’s left of her time and sanity.

Karen has always been fascinated by the way people relate to one another so she favors books and movies that feature richly detailed characters and their relationships. In her own writing she likes to explore the dynamics between characters and has a tendency to craft romantic tales filled with sarcasm and sexy details. Although she writes both m/f and m/m contemporary romance, all of her

Book Review: Moment of Impact (Moments in Time, #1) – Karen Stivali

Moment Of ImpactMoment of Impact is about two college roommates’ – the bisexual Tanner D’Amico and the closeted with a very religious family Collin Fitzpatrick – who fall in love until Collin was forced to come out in the closet. But who would Collin choose? Tanner or his family?

This would have been a fantastic short read if not for the single factor in the story that totally grate on my nerves – the girl bff / fubu. I’m okay with the story being so rushed. I was even okay with it about Collin’s quick acceptance of his sexuality but I just don’t get Tanner’s logic when the whole thing about them started – him liking Collin so much whilst fucking Wendy during those times. Ugh. It just feels kind of twisted for me to really understand or try to accept.

Even the quick change of heart of Tanner’s side from being so understanding to being a demanding college brat about their relationship is easy to ignore because everything happens so fast and in-between is the massive amount of sex in the story.

This has great potentials that weren’t fully realized and I’m hoping that it’d pick up in the second book of the series.
