Mutya Datul’s Quest For Miss Supranational 2013!

Mutya Datulphotos c/o Raymond Saldana.

This uber-lovely and humble beauty queen from Isabela province is off to Belarus to compete for this year’s Miss Supranational 2013. Mutya is all set and ready to conquer Europe as she’s aiming to win the very first crown for the country in the said pageant. Last year, 2011 Bb. Pilipinas 1st runner up Elaine Kay Moll clinched the 4th position which is the highest placement of the Philippines in the four year history of Miss Supranational.

Mutya, touted as one of the pre-arrival favorites of pageant fans around the world will also be doing a first in Philippine pageantry – she’ll be using an interpreter. This I think is a good move from Binibining Pilipinas Organization because this could really help Mutya whose only Achilles Heel is speaking in English, other than that – the girl has everything set up for her to win the crown! Quoting Janine Tugonon’s answer last year, “It’s not about knowing how to speak a specific language…”

So here’s to Mutya’s journey to the first crown for the Philippines in Miss Supranational 2013 which will be held in Minsk, Belarus on September 6! Git’ it girl!

My Miss World Philippines 2013 First Hot Picks!

A week from now, the new Miss World Philippines will be crowned and will have the task to win the first blue crown for the country. Twenty-six lovely girls are vying for the crown but only one can win the most coveted title. I was trying to do a Top 10 Hot Picks but I decided to just pick three girls whom I think had the strongest chances of making the top 3. This could very well change in a week’s time so I’d be posting the first one today and my final hot picks a day before the pageant. Here are my Top 3 Hot Picks!

MWP 2013 First HotPicks

Miss World Philippines 2013 – Megan Young (Olongapo City)

Why Megan? The 23-year old celebrity is still the one to beat in this competition. She’s the prettiest out of all the contestants this year and her presentation thus far is flawless. Let no politics be played and we’ll see Megan wearing the Philippine sash in Indonesia this September.

First Princess – Melanie Barret (Pampanga)

Melanie is a fresh face in the Philippines pageant circuit and I love that she’s raw but still ready to battle it out with the more experienced candidates. I love her mestiza look and her pedigree would surely catapult her on top.

2nd Princess – Bianca Paz (Taguig City)

Bianca’s trying it out for the second time after winning second to the first Miss World Philippines and eventual Miss World 2011 first princess Gwendolyn Ruais. She came ready to win the crown but I think she kinda lost her spark. I’m still waiting for her amazing performance on the 18th but for now, I won’t discard her into my top 3.

Who are your Top 3 for the Miss World Philippines this year?

My Top 10 Collections From The Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2013

A rather swift yet stylish week went by with the best Filipino designers showcasing their genius in the recently concluded Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2013 Season. Models, celebrities, fashion bloggers, the media and all shape and sizes of fashion lovers marched on at the SMX Convention center taking the time to witness the presentation of our world-class talents. With the heat of the summer (night and day literally,) our designers took the runway like hurricane enthralling the audience on the future of Philippine Fashion. With that being said, here are my 10 favorite collections of the season!

No. 10 Magnum’s LUXE WEAR collection by Sidney Perez  – Sio

This collection may have been the most cohesive collection presented this season. The minimalist attack of Perez-Sio  dramatically captured the essence of its somehow lucid soft grey pieces that may work well in casual to formal occasions! Also, it is very pleasing and fresh to the eyes!

Sidney Perez Sio

No.9  Grand Allure Collection by Mark Tamayo

Using black, red and white sheer, Tamayo essentially dressed up her models to showcased their heavenly feminine figures. Bravo!

Mark Tamayo

No.8 Michael Cinco’s The Impalpable Dream of Russia”

Dreamy and royal! THE Michael Cinco never fail to impress me! REPOST: The Dubai-based designer presented his newest collection which he calls “The Impalpable Dream Of Russia” and the pieces are just to die for. From the crystal embellishment of each dress to the cuts and intricate artworks – these pieces are something we’d only see in our dreams but Cinco’s genius gave us the pleasure of experiencing this into reality! Bravo!

No. 7 Zxnader Tan for Menswear

Military inspired pieces were strutted by Zxander Tan’s warriors (models) and they are just oozing with appeal. Comfy, hip and just pure stylish! These are happening NOW!

Zxander Tan

No. 6 Katutubo Collections by Gerry Katigbak

Using fabrics out of local Pinya and Jusi, the gothic feel of his take on the old barong tagalog may have been a bit too much for some but I just loved it! Katigbak’s take on our national costume is modern, provocative and still is, conservative enough. These are for modern Filipino men.

Gerry Katigbak

No. 5 Ulysses King for Menswear

I literally got chills watching this collection in the ramp. Ulysses King is an innovateur that doesn’t run out of ideas – ever! These somewhat religious-inspired pieces are creepy yet fascinating (that’s how they made me feel ). The well-tailored lining are the works of a master and Ulysses yet again delivered!

Ulysses King

No. 4 Magnum’s LUXE WEAR collection by Anthony Ramirez

While I’m not a fan of his ladies collection, I reckon that if he did “menswear” this season, it would’ve been one of the most lauded. His suits are to die for!

Anthony Ramirez

No.3 Norman Noriega for Menswear

I love this collection! The overcast look of it is easy in the eye. It’s streetwear – perfection if you ask me.

Norman Noriega

2. Arnold Galang for Menswear

When his pieces came out of the runway, I immediately thought “S & M?” The details are masterfully crafted, the idea of a contrasting black and white floored the audience without even seeing the rest of the designers of the night. I daresay that Arnold Galang had the best Menswear collection this season.

Arnold Galang

1. M. BARRETTO

With a slew of celebrities strutting his designs, the look of the collection still outshined them all. Here, you see the imagination of a true genius. The cuts, the cosmo-Twiggy vibes, the sleek-James Bond suit, the rakistas and the all-so chic feel of the whole collection made me decide to put M Barretto at the top of my list this season. His are perfection at a whole new level.

michael-cinco-profile

As expected, THE Michael Cinco kick-started the Holiday 2013 season with a very, very couture bang! The Dubai-based designer presented his newest collection which he calls “The Impalpable Dream Of Russia” and the pieces are just to die for. From the crystal embellishment of each dress to the cuts and intricate artworks – these pieces are something we’d only see in our dreams but Cinco’s genius gave us the pleasure of experiencing this into reality! Bravo!

Battle Of The Covers: Pinay Supermodels vs Beauty Queens

Pinay International Models and The Pinay Miss Universe runners up!

Pinay International Models and The Pinay Miss Universe runners up!

All of ’em gave pride and honor to our country and in these two uber-fierce covers – they show us how they werk it! In a good- natured comparison between these two magazine covers (from Mega’s June 2011 cover featuring Ford Supermodels’ Charlene Almarvez, Charo Ronquillo and Danica Magpantay and Preview Magazine’s May 2013 issue featuring the Miss Universe Philippines’ runners-up Janine Tugonon, Shamcey Supsup and Maria Venus Raj,) whose group do you think is fiercer?

Binibining Pilipinas 2013 – Its Golden Winners, History And Random Thoughts

It was aptly dubbed as the Binibining Pilipinas Gold as the pageant celebrates its 50th edition this year. With the finals night concluding last Sunday, the set of winners were announced with a unanimous approval from pageant fans and the likes.

Ara Arida MUP

24 year-old Laguna native Ariella “Ara” Arida was hailed victorious in white as she was crowned Miss Universe Philippines. I actually didn’t expect her to win the title because she played it under the radar for me.  I thought it was the highly favored candidates like Charmaine Elima or Maria Angelica De Leon would be winning the crown prior to the pageant night. Lo and behold, Arida stepped it up big time and sailed through the pageant night like she was really supposed to be there. She was hailed as the best in swimsuit which easily catapult her to the semis (being called first) and she totally nailed the question and answer thus giving her the Miss Universe Philippines crown. A totally deserved win!

Bea Rose Santiago International

Bea Rose Santiago’s win was expected. When she glided into that stage that night – I was just waiting for the results and see her head with a crown. After the question and answer, I thought she would end up winning the Miss Universe Philippines title. I was happy though that she bagged the Binibining Pilipinas International title. I have a feeling that she will  be the country’s 5th Miss International winner! The girl has got it all  – beauty, body and brains!

Cindy Miranda BBP Tourism

Joanna Cindy Miranda was one of the  crowd’s favorite that night. She was a sight to behold in pink! She was a steady player last Sunday, did good in swimsuit and evening gown round and gave a fairly good answer during the question and answer portion when she said the one word that describe her is “UNSTOPPABLE.” She was indeed unstoppable that night. Congrats Cindy for winning the Binibining Pilipinas- Tourism!

Mutya Datul BBPSupra

Mutya! Oh Mutya! Where did you get those lovely eyes? I predicted her to win the Binibining Pilipinas Supranational and she did! Mutya was the face of the evening! Her pasarela was perfect and she glided through that stage in swimsuit and evening gown with ease! I thought she would also win the swimsuit category along with the best in evening gown award! She was truly a “Mutya” that night! Her answer during the Q&A was decent. She made an effort to answer the question in English (which she isn’t comfortable at all) and she didn’t falter anywhere in that answer! It was short but precise. Yes, her accent may be a little funny but she was a natural! We all know that it’s her weakness but she didn’t show it and she made it all the way to win one of the crowns! I initially thought that they would give her the MUP title but I am now thinking that the judges made the right decision because she could REALLY WIN the first Miss Supranational for the country – it maybe a minor pageant but it’s growing!

Pia Wurtzbach Runner Up

Lastly is the lone runner-up of this edition, Pia Wurtzbach. This feisty lady was touted to win either the Universe or International title but the other four are just stronger. The good thing about her winning runner up is that she could comeback next year until she turned 26.

Rounding up the Top 15 are (in order) #45 Imelda Schweighart, #34 Grace Yann Apuad, #13 Charmaine Elima, #43 Rhea Nakpil, #46 Amanda Navasero, #22 Ellore Noelle Punzalan, #12 Camille Carla Nazar #31 Maria Angelica De Leon, #25 Merry Joyce Respicio #33 Parul Shah.

 Special Awards

Ms Friendship – #21 Lourenz Grace Remetillo
Ms Talent – #10 Anna Carmina Antonio
Nat Costume – #37 Maria Teresita Alaine Baccay
Ms Manila Bulletin – #22 Ellore Noelle Punzalan
Ms Petron – #16 Joanna Cindy Miranda

Ms PAL – #4 Nicole Kim Donesa
Ms PAGCOR – #45 Imelda Schweighart
Best In Swimsuit – #41 Ariella Arida
Best In Evening Gown – #39 Mutya Johanna Datul

Martin Nievera and Dawn Zulueta were the main host of the evening and previous queens Shamcey Supsup and Venus Raj are their co-hosts! It was overall a great show! I LOVED the first part when atleast 60 of the past pageant’s queens came together for the very first time on one stage and of course, the tribute to the National Director and owner of Binibining Pilipinas Madam Stella Marquez Araneta was really oh-so-touching! It was the first time that she went center stage in the 50 years of the pageant! Last Sunday was truly historical – that golden age of Binibining Pilipinas!!!

My Binibining Pilipinas 2013 Top 15 Second Hot Picks!

From my initial Hot Picks – a couple of girls went up and went down on the list,  and some were kicked out  with other girls taking their places.

Ria Rabajante who placed 15th last week didn’t make it on my second to the last HOT PICKS along with Shamcey Supsup deadringer Angel Villafuerte who’s comfortably placed at ninth last week. So here are my second Hot Picks – a week before I post my final prediction.

Binibini 13 Charmaine Elima's still holding on to the top spot! Is she really THE ONE?

Binibini 13 Charmaine Elima’s still holding on to the top spot! Is she really THE ONE?

Charmaine is continuosly dominating the competition. This Filipina Barbie‘s consistency came from her local pageant experiences and it shows in everything she does within the competition. She is THE ONE at this stage to snatch the Miss Universe – Philippines and the crown is her’s to lose.

Binibini 31 Maria Angelica De Leon has arrived!

Binibini 31 Maria Angelica De Leon has arrived!

Maria Angelica De Leon or Mariel is the biggest threat to Charmaine and a SERIOUS THREAT for that matter. From just a celebrity daughter when she first submitted her application to a supergoddess today – her transformation is nothing short of spectacular.

Binibini 39 Mutya Datul PERFECTION Personified!

Binibini 39 Mutya Datul PERFECTION Personified!

Mutya is a perrenial Top 5 favorites of pageant afficionados and the likes. You cannot ignore this kind of beauty. Her weakness maybe speaking in English but whoever said that you cannot win a crown by speaking the vernacular??! Mutya can do a Czarina Gatbonton come finals night and she may even win the most coveted crown.

4564th – Pia Wurtzbach
5th – Merry Joyce Respicio
6th – Hannah Sison

Pia went up from number eight to number 4 and that is because she truly stepped up this week. Merry Joyce’ consistency maybe a foreshadowing of her place come finals night and I’m still hoping the best for her. Hannah was second last week but her armor suddenly got weak! She needs to step it up for the last week leading up to the finals to seal her destiny to one of the crowns.

7897th – Bea Rose Santiago
8th – Joana Cindy Miranda
9th –  Parul Shah

Bea just went down a notch but she’s still a sure placer for me. Cindy on the other hand went from number 14 to top 8 and that is saying something. She may not be a favorite to win the Miss Universe Philippines but Cindy could easily snatch the other crowns from the front-runners! Parul who placed 10 last week is at number 9 now and I’m not sure what to make of her at this time – it seems like she’s losing her steam! This girl is Minorka Mercado V2 and she must use that advantage!

10111210th – Merce Grace Racquel
11th – Christina Love Paula Bernasor
12th – Anna Fernandina Buquid

I took notice of Merce when I read about her bio and watched some of her videos. This girl has got potentials! She may even be the dark horse of this competition so the girls should really watch out for her. Paula Bernasor on the other hand is up from 13th to 11th. She is my sentimental favorite you guys and I’m just really a fan of her beauty. I’ve a feeling as well that she’d make it in the semis! Anna Fernandina Buquid’s been hyped since she applied and she’s worth the hype if I may say. It’s just too bad that she’s too raw for this pageant! But hey, she may surprise us next Sunday though.

13141513th – Maria Sofia Gloria Mustonen
14th – Cassandra Naidas
15th  – Vania Valiry Vispo

Sofia’s mesmerizing facial beauty is undeniable that is why she’s part of this list. You cannot also ignore the unique look of Cassy Naidas. And lastly, Valiry Vispo’s enigmatica aura was placed on my Top 20 last week and I’m glad that she stepped it up this week completing my Top 15 second hot picks!

Any comments or violent reactions? Haha. Who are you top bets to win the coveted Binibining Pilipinas crowns?
