I’ve read this upon its release last month and have only gotten to writing a review as we speak! Sorry, Charlie – I’ve been so busy!

Y’all know I’m the biggest fan of Dex and Sloane and this final installment of the THIRDS series is a bit nostalgic in a way because one of my favorite couples will be embarking on a new chapter and new series for that matter which I believe is slated in 2019 (OMG! So long!)

Anyway, before I get sidetrack (I’m definitely writing freestyle right now so bear with what I am about to post in a bit and what you’re about to read haha!) – Okay, as much as I loved Charlie and the guys – I’ve to say that this isn’t my favorite book in the series. Don’t get me wrong, I still loved it but I was maybe hoping for lesser drama! But what can I do? It’s the finale so it was expected. I was just dead worried the whole time that the wedding will not be happening at all. I swear, I was ready to stalk Charlie on social media. LOL

The thing that bothers me a bit here is the disconnect I felt with most of the characters here. It’s like, we’re all just waiting for the big day to happen but lo and behold – drama unfolds! Ugh! Sometimes, I just want them to mellow for a bit!

Okay, perhaps I’m getting a bit carried away now since it’s 2:40 in the morning from where I am. It was still an awesome read overall. I’d recommend it to fans of the series for now because it’s definitely not stand alone!

Book Review: Rise & Fall (THIRDS, #4) – Charlie Cochet

[Book 4 of the THIRDS Series]

Rise And FallI was meaning to write my review here since I’ve read this super-awesome fourth installment of the THIRDS series but I just can’t find the right words to describe it’s supah-dupah greatness (okay – I was just really busy – eeekk!) but still, I stand firm that this series has become one of my favorites and this new book from author Charlie Cochet cemented her status as one of the best storyteller in the MM genre.

On with the book, Dexter J. Daley takes center stage this time after the events from the third book (Rack & Ruin) left his work partner and “secret” boyfriend Sloane Brodie critically injured from a bombing attack by the evil Coalition led by Beck Hogan. This incident led Lieutenant Sparks to pull Dex’s Destructive Delta team out from the case and hand it over to Sebastian Hobbs’team. Dex was not happy about this and swears to make Hogan pay for what he did at whatever cost. As Dex plans for his revenge, he also began to spiral out of control missing the real reason of what he’s doing altogether. This made Sloane take some action to intervene and finally comes clean with what Dex really meant to him which could save the latter from danger.

Really, I’ve tried dragging reading this book when I bought my ebook copy. I didn’t want it to finish right away but since it’s a short read – I’m like, shoot – now I’ve to wait for the next book. I mean, the series was so good and I just want to continue reading stories about the characters. Of course I understand that it’ not easy to come out with fantabulous stories like this but Charlie just totally hit every single mark in this story. I’m so greedy and I want more! More! More! There are the usual laughs, the sexy times, the romance and the oh-so good story development from every angle. I seriously cannot fault this book – and this series as a whole. Dare I say that this could even rival the Cut & Run series (although I loved Ty and Zane to death) but of course we’ll have to see the consistency of the series and based on the first four books – this series was simply sublime and just one of the best in the genre.

This book is a total must-read and highly recommended one for the lovely readers of the genre. Again, thank you Charlie for this wonderful installment!

Book Review: Rack & Ruin [THIRDS Book 3] – Charlie Cochet

22714908[Book 3 of the THIRDS series]

Ya’ll know how I loved the first and second book of this series and Rack & Ruin is no exception! In this installment, the gang is trying to draw out the mole inside the THIRDS who has been feeding information to the Ikelos Coalition who took upon themselves to annihilate the members of the Order of Adrasteia with no regards to civilian casualties.

We also see here the development of Sloane Brodie [team leader of Destructive Delta] and Dexter J. Daley’s relationship. Dex is still his doofus-self and still very much adorable whilst Sloane’s – well, surprise! – (I very much liked him in this book) making some effort to deserve Dex’s love. He’s still got some hang-ups though but knowing Dex’s way of getting through this broody Jaguar Therian – he’ll surely relent one way or another.

There’s also a surprising turn of events here regarding two of the couples of DD – the slow buildup of their upcoming stories is very palpable here. I’m not sure which couple I loved more aside from Sloane and Dex. I think I’d go for Hobbs & Calvin. Cale is stubborn like Dex but not as adorable – but still, I’m very much looking forward to reading his and Ash’s story. This is just the gayest series ever yeah? LOL And I just loved it!

Going back to the book, it’s simply the perfect follow up to the first two books. I love the story’s consistency and the secondary characters are just so vibrant. I know that the fourth book in the series is slated for February 2015 release and that is like forever if you ask me but I think those who have not read the series would thoroughly enjoy reading – the first, second and then this third book  – until the next book comes out! Gosh, this wait will be too much for me to be honest. LOL. Go! Start reading the series now!

Book Review: Blood & Thunder (THIRDS #2) – Charlie Cochet

This without question is one of the best sequels of any series I’ve ever read in this genre. In this second installment of the THIRDS series, we see how Sloane slowly lowers his guard to really let our sweet boy Dex into his life while courageously facing his past that keeps on haunting him.

When a series of bombs go off in a Therian youth center, injuring members of THIRDS Team Destructive Delta, and causing a rift between agents Dexter J. Daley and Sloane Brodie, peace seems unattainable. Especially when a new and frightening group, the Order of Adrasteia, appears to always be a step ahead. With panic and intolerance spreading and streets becoming littered with the Order’s propaganda, hostility between Humans and Therians grows daily. Dex and Sloane, along with the rest of the team, are determined to take down the Order and restore peace, not to mention settle a personal score. But the deeper the team investigates the bombings, the more they believe there’s a more sinister motive than a desire to shed blood and spread chaos.

Discovering the frightful truth behind the Order’s intent forces Sloane to confront secrets from a past he thought he’d left behind for good, a past that could not only destroy him and his career, but also the reputation of the organization that made him all he is today. Now more than ever, Dex and Sloane need each other, and, along with trust, the strength of their bond will mean the difference between justice and all-out war. Via Goodreads

Now this is what I was talking about when I said that this couple [Dex & Sloane] is bound to become the newest power couple of this genre. Dex’s funny antics are just all swoon-worthy that I feel like giggling every time he opens his mouth. [That karaoke scene was like the cutest, most adorable, funniest thing EVER!]. I also loved the fact that Sloane mellowed down a little because Dexie baby deserves more loving!!

It’s also a pleasure getting more out of the rest of Sloane’s team – that is mostly, the rest of secondary characters. Cael, Ash, Hobbs, Calvin et al. I already feel so attached with everyone!

I don’t think I could say more without spoilering it with you guys. So I suggest you grab a copy of the first and second installment of this series and finally get your know-how on the newest craze that is the THIRDS series.

Book Review: Hell & High Water (THIRDS #1) – Charlie Cochet

via Goodreads

via Goodreads

This is a book I wouldn’t mind losing sleep over. Hell Or High Water is the first book from the THIRDS series released this year from author Charlie Cochet and I’ve one word for it – PERFECTION.

With raving reviews and high ratings from here to virtually every book blogs, I wasn’t surprised that it easily made me into a Dex-Sloane biggest fan. Haha. The book has this fresh vibe with a whole new take on the “shifter” universe that will easily lure regular m/m genre readers into this wonderful world where humans and therians (shifters which does not include magic at all – hah!) coexists.

“When homicide detective Dexter J. Daley’s testimony helps send his partner away for murder, the consequences—and the media frenzy—aren’t far behind. He soon finds himself sans boyfriend, sans friends, and, after an unpleasant encounter in a parking garage after the trial, he’s lucky he doesn’t find himself sans teeth. Dex fears he’ll get transferred from the Human Police Force’s Sixth Precinct, or worse, get dismissed. Instead, his adoptive father—a sergeant at the Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron otherwise known as the THIRDS—pulls a few strings, and Dex gets recruited as a Defense Agent.

Dex is determined to get his life back on track and eager to get started in his new job. But his first meeting with Team Leader Sloane Brodie, who also happens to be his new jaguar Therian partner, turns disastrous. When the team is called to investigate the murders of three HumaniTherian activists, it soon becomes clear to Dex that getting his partner and the rest of the tightknit team to accept him will be a lot harder than catching the killer—and every bit as dangerous.” Via Goodreads

I loved how the author built Dexter Daley’s character from a rather passive do-gooder detective to an uberly adorable, perky, 80’s music loving sexy dork the moment he entered the THIRDS facilities. Dex’s character was such a joy to read. [Yep, I think I’m in love] LOL.

With regards to his partner, the stoic Sloane Brodie is well – hotness overload but I gotta say, the guy’s a douchebag especially with Dex. I know, I know- he’s got some issues and all but I still think he’s a tool. Poor baby Dex competing with a ghost. Oops!!… Hell, okay no more spoiler.

Regardless of Sloane’s douchebaggery, I still love him with Dex and their silly banter. They are indeed a strong couple in the throe of coupledom in the MM genre. I’m pretty sure those who enjoyed Tyler and Zane [Cut & Run series] would get a kick out of this book. It is full of action, crazy ass characters and romance that will tickle you to the bone and a genius of a storyline that will keep you wanting for more. This is definitely the book you should read next. As in pronto!!
