Characters: Spencer Cohen, Andrew Landon

Warning: This review contain some spoilers.

If you’ve not read the first Spencer Cohen book, I suggest you go directly online [ HERE ] and pick it up because this second book isn’t stand-alone and it picks up where it ended from the first book where Spencer finally accepted the strong feelings he’s developed with Andrew and they are now trying to work out their “new relationship” as a couple in this second installment.

You just gotta love them boys here! This one’s real sweet and very easy to read. I think a lot of people will be able to relate to Spencer about opening up to people especially when you’ve been burned before by someone you loved. I loved that both Spencer and Andrew  are really getting to know each other here and they ‘communicate’ like every couples should always do.

Although throughout the story, my mind’s keep wondering about Spencer’s biological family. I think that angle needs to happen in book 3 ^_^ I am thinking that maybe one of his brother will turn out to be gay as well? Or the father dying for real or something? Yes – I can be vindictive like that! LOL I cannot believe they would act like that towards Spencer – I mean, it’s totally nothing new from the stories I’ve read from other books about teens getting kicked-out when they come out to their family and sadly, in real life as well but there was no mention of religious shit and all or Spencer’s family being too conservative whatevs – I dunno, it was just odd and I am freaking mad at how his father could be that evil that he’d call the parent of Spencer’s friends (where he was temporarily staying) to warn them rendering Spencer real homeless before his aunt took over. OMFG I am so mad for Spencer!!!!! I really hope that the third book will tackle Spencer’s family.

I also felt a bit pensive when Spencer mentioned that he doesn’t have to do what he’s doing for a living because he’s got money and he just want to help people. He wanted to help out people, be a relationship fixer and all but I still don’t get why in that particular ‘business’ – it’s a rather odd profession right? Like a less ridiculous version of Millionaire’s Matchmaker or something… (and No, for those who continued reading this despite the spoiler alert – Spencer isn’t a matchmaker! Haha!)

I’ve a feeling tho that the third book will still have a client involved in the story which is not a bad idea at all but I am really hoping that the focus will be more about Spencer’s background. I want some resolution in that area but I know that whatever the author think is best for the story – it will still come out wonderful!

I cannot wait to read the next (final?) installment!!! This is becoming one of my favorite series’ from NR Walker along with Thomas Elkins and Red Dirt Heart!

About The Author
N.R. Walker is an Australian author, who loves her genre of gay romance.
She loves writing and spends far too much time doing it, but wouldn’t have it any other way.

She is many things; a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who live in her head, who don’t let her sleep at night unless she gives them life with words.

She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things…but likes it even more when they fall in love.

She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal.

She’s been writing ever since…

Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 4 Episode 2 – The Girl Who Bounced Back (Recap)

Angie is soaring high this week!

Angie is soaring high this week!

The episode last night was a fairly quick one with a rather predictable call-out order although I’ve to disagree with the girl who got the first call out this time.

Mai Ngo was not a big hit with the girls during the first episode so she apologized to the rest of the girls about her attitude. I honestly thought that she shouldn’t have because she’s just keeping it real. If they cannot handle it, they can just back off. Gwen was all about making up from her epically disastrous first week which almost see her leaving the competition.

The challenge was to test their composure whilst jumping on a trampoline, which is also connected with their next photoshoot. Angie won the challenge deservingly so with Gwen tailing her – good for Gwen! At said challenge, poor Jessica sprained her ankle leaving her with zero and you would think that this is the start of her downfall yeah?

Challenge Scores
Angie 8.8 WINNER!
Gwen 8.3
Julian 7.5
Aldilla 7.1
Mai Ngo 7
Alaiza 7
Patricia 6.8
Sang-In 6
Tawan 5.8
May 5
Tuti 4.5
Tugs 4
Jessica 0

As for their photoshoot, the remaining girls are to jump off the trampoline while posing elegantly – basically – the challenge only it is with more make-up and better clothing! Haha! The pictures are pretty good actually and they reminded me of Flights of Fancy episode from the first and (so far) only cycle of the Philippines’ Next Top Model. I thought that is one of the best shoots of any Top Model franchise ever!

Going back to the shoot, it wasn’t a spectacular session for Tuti and Tugs because apparently – they just cannot get in the groove. I honestly thought Jessica should’ve packed her bags right away…oops! I know, spoiler alert! But cmon’ she didn’t actually did the brief of the shoot so even during the challenge, I could understand what Gwen was yapping about.

Okay, as for the first call out. As I’ve said – I disagree with the judges choices and I cannot believe Kelly just gave Mai Ngo an 8!!! Cmon’ Kelly!!! You know, that’s a 10!!!! And of course, Mai Ngo’s challenge score was a deterrent for her to get the top spot. This is why I don’t like this scoring system!!!

I was really sad for the girl who left last night though but yeah – it’s a competition I know but I thought she deserved another chance!

Call-Out Order
Angie – Total score: 38.8
Mai Ngo – Total score: 35.0
Julian – Total score: 34.5
Alaiza – Total score: 31.0
Sang In – Total score: 27.0
May – Total score: 26.0
Tuti – Total score: 26.0
Tawan – Total score: 24.8
Aldilla – Total score: 23.1
Patricia – Total score: 20.8

Why the LGBT Community Should Vote For Hillary Clinton? #ImWithHer

Hillary ClintonWe have to understand that Hillary Clinton may not have been a proponent of same-sex marriage until 2013 but she’s been doing a lot of things in support of the community prior to her complete change of heart. Hillary’s position about marriage equality was aptly pointed by Mark Joseph Stern with his slate.com article stating,

“…when it comes to gay rights, there are two Hillary Clintons: Clinton the politician, a cautious moderate, and Clinton the person, who of course supports civil rights for gays. I’m not quite sure that dichotomy holds up to scrutiny. It was, after all, Clinton the person who wrote that she “disagree[d]” with a tiny paperwork revision to accommodate same-sex parents. And it was Clinton the politician who told the United Nations that “gay rights are human rights” in 2011—shortly before the passport kerfuffle.”

Speaking of ‘gay rights are human rights’ which seems to be one of the prevailing slogan by the Clinton campaign, you may all remember her historic speech in Geneva, Switzerland  when she claimed that,

“Using religion to justify homophobia was “not unlike the justification offered for violent practices towards women like honor killings, widow burning, or female genital mutilation. Some people still defend those practices as part of a cultural tradition. But violence toward women isn’t cultural; it’s criminal.”

Not only does she support the community in America, but globally she stated:

“To LGBT men and women worldwide, let me say this: Wherever you live and whatever the circumstances of your life, whether you are connected to a network of support or feel isolated and vulnerable, please know that you are not alone.”

“People around the globe are working hard to support you and to bring an end to the injustices and dangers you face. That is certainly true for my country. And you have an ally in the United States of America and you have millions of friends among the American people.”

A lot of us in the community may not know about then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s revision on giving gay US diplomats equal benefits that their heterosexual counterparts enjoy in 2009.

Clinton says regulations that denied same-sex couples and their families the same rights and privileges that straight diplomats enjoyed are “unfair and must end,” as they harm U.S. diplomacy.”

And in 2015, she valiantly expressed her support for the “Equality Act which will mean full federal equality of LGBT Americans and stronger anti-discrimination protections for everyone,”  making this a priority of her presidency.

The above mentioned are just few of the things she did towards the betterment of our community.

I guess what I’m saying is that let’s all be fair. Stop crucifying her just because you are voting for Bernie Sanders. Making it look like she didn’t do anything for our community isn’t just right. Mr. Sanders has supported the community all throughout his career but he’s not exactly a pioneer of LGBT rights.

“When serving as mayor of Burlington, Sanders told an interviewer that LGBT rights were not a “major priority” for him. Asked if he would support a bill to protect gays from job discrimination, Sanders responded, “probably not.” That was more than 25 years ago. Sanders has, no doubt, come a long way since then: The senator endorsed Vermont’s successful Marriage Equality Act in 2009 and has cheered the Supreme Court’s marriage rulings. And he is co-sponsoring the Equality Act, a sweeping federal LGBT rights bill that advocacy groups place high on their post-marriage agenda. “

My point is, will he be putting enough priority to our causes if he claimed the highest seat in the country?

At least all throughout Hillary’s evolution into supporting the LGBT community, we’ve heard words put into action and with that – we know that we’ll retain whatever rights we rightfully deserved in the first place with the hope that as the first woman president of the most powerful country in the world gets elected, our community will also be part of the progression with total equal rights as everyone.

Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 4 Episode 1 – Bubble Couture (Recap)

Tuti snatching this cycle's first FCO!

Tuti snatching this cycle’s first FCO!

It’s another season and another Asian fierceness showdown we’ve witnessed tonight as fourteen girls from the region battled it out in the hopes of becoming Asia’s Next Top Model!

It was not a good start for Team Philippines; let me tell you that right off the bat. There was a preview of what’s to expect for the rest of the season and it’s not looking good for my homegirls boohoo!

The first challenge was on a runway and I think I just fell in love with Patricia!!! Angie was a bit stiff but looking gorgeous like Patricia. Sang In looks like those Asian girls walking the runways in Europe! OMFG! Gwen looks very well, the judges were right – very pageantry. And to be fair, she was a beauty queen! LOL

Winner of the challenge was very obvious – Patricia!!!! Yay!!! (Bad news tho – for those who loathed the scoring system employed in the last few cycles of America’s Next Top Model, it’s here people so there’s that – I’m not totally happy with this)

Challenge Scores
Patricia – 9.5
Tuti – 9.0
Tawan – 8.3
Alaiza – 8.0
Julian – 7.7
Tugs – 7.3
Gwen – 7.3
Aldilla – 6.7
May – 6.7
Sang In – 5.3
Jessica – 5.0
Angie – 4.2
Mai Ngo – 4.0

At the house there are only 13 beds but 14 models so someone will get an early boot and unfortunately for Maya Goldman – her runway skill was adjudged to be the weakest so that’s Team Thailand getting their first casualty. FYI: Wanvisa Maya Goldman was a runner-up during the Miss Universe Thailand 2013.

On to their first shoot, can I just say how totally fab the idea was!!!! They will be dressed up in 60’s inspired outfit while inside bubble! It was like a hundred times better from half of the shoot last year! Yeah, yeah…sorry but it’s true!

During the shoot, my favorite has got to be feisty Mai Ngo!!! Girl, you givin’ me ma life-force!!! It ain’t Top Model if it’s drama-free! LOL

At panel, the girls are looking absolutely divine in white!!! Wow!!! Tuti was an obvious hit with the judges from runway to her photo and TBH, I thought Mai Ngo’s photo looks ridiculously good!

So here’s the ranking this episode:
Challenge + Shoot:
Tuti – 37.5
Aldilla – 33.2
Alaiza – 32.5
Patricia – 31.5
Julian – 30.7
May – 29.2
Mai Ngo – 27.5
Sang In – 26.3
Tawan – 25.3
Jessica – 19.0
Tugs – 18.5
Angie – 18.0
Gwen – 17.3

Please hover your mouse here: Gwen was supposed to go home but since Maya got the booted earlier, she was given another chance! So there’ that! Make it work next episode, Gwen!

Don’t forget to watch the show every Wednesdays, 9PM 8PM JKT/BKK/VN on StarWorld!

Book Review: High Contrast (Evolution Ink, #1) – Tess Bowery [ARC]

High ContrastDate Of Publication: May 3, 2016
Format: Novel
Genre And Theme: Romance, New Adult
Length: 226 pages, ebook
Publisher: Samhain Publishing
Ebook ISBN: 9781619234574
Cover Artist: Kelly Martin
Characters: Jacob Shain, Cody Turner

I had a total blast reading this one. I didn’t expect much from it but I totally got more in return!  I’ve never read anything from the author before this and now, I’m thinking of getting her two other books released in 2015!

High Contrast is highly relatable, at least on my end. Jacob Shain is a lowly unpaid intern who shares an apartment with his twin brother Ethan and is the geeky-comic-book-video-games-loving brother in contrast with his much-cooler-tattoo-artist twin. I mean, I’m basically living the life of Jacob! So with that I can totally see eye to eye with his character although I’ve to say that Jacob’s way fun and funnier! He’s so adorkable! His inner monologues are my life-force in this book!

Enter uber-gorgeous-tattooed-piercer Cody Turner, the new employee of Evolution Ink where Ethan was a co-owner and where Jacob usually hangs out. Cody is quiet, smart, kind and doesn’t give too many personal information but it was lust at first sight for Jacob baby so he’s so ready to take on the challenge of getting Cody to open up.

Only it wasn’t that easy and simple especially after a number of hooligans suddenly showed up that threatens Cody, their friends and their budding relationship!

Truly, this is one book I will recommend for anyone looking for something that is angst-free and just feel-good all over. There was humor in it, the romance was very palpable with unbelievably hot steamy scenes and the writing was truly entertaining and engaging overall.

I will definitely be on the lookout for the next installment!

Kim Ross, Disqualified from the Binibining Pilipinas 2016!

Kim Ross

I’ve just heard the disheartening news that Kim Ross Delos Santos was disqualified from competing at this year’s Binibining Pilipinas edition. She apparently had sexy test shots from the past, which didn’t really fit into the criteria of the organization. Seriously, this “criteria” is hindering worthy joiners of the pageants.

Jonas Gaffud Statements

In 2013, Megan Young was apparently disqualified to join the pageant because of her Rogue magazine photoshoot – and mind you, that is not in any way a “porn” publication and look at what happened, she ended up winning the Miss World beauty pageant that same year so that is definitely a blessing in disguise. I also remember the case of Grendel Alvarado a few years back when she was disqualified along with a  fellow Philippines’ Next Top Model alum because of their nude shoot during the show; And that shoot was for Breast Cancer Awareness mind you!

There are also tons of similar cases in the past and I think it’s high time for the organization to really change their rules or at least be clear about what is REALLY ALLOWED and what is NOT. I know that rules are made for a reason but let’s take Megan’s Rogue’s shoot for example, does it violate the morality clause of the Binibining Pilipinas criteria? Does it affect the name of the pageant at large? Then why did Miss World Philippines readily accepted her application and even went on to crown her? I mean, cmon’ people – we’re wasting these beautiful Filipinas for what? Nothing – just way too dated views about morality.

I really do hope that Kim will be given due process or at least a broad explanation on why she was disqualified in the first place. Binibining Pilipinas, please – say something about this issue and don’t just keep mum about it like this is nothing at all to fuzz about. Banat naman kayo diyan!

This was the picture that cause her disqualification, apparently which I found via pageant site Misossology

Kim Ross

What are your thoughts about the picture and her disqualification?

[ARC] Book Review: Where There’s A Will (Panopolis, #3) – Cari Z.

Where There's WillDate Of Publication: May 2, 2016 by Riptide Publishing
Format: Novel
Genre And Theme: Sci-Fi, Romance, Contemporary
Length: 290 pages, ebook
Publisher: Riptide Publishing
Ebook ISBN: 9781626494053
Cover Artist: L.C. Chase
Characters: Freight Train, Craig Haney, Ari Mansourian

In this third installment of the series, the grit is way more intense that not even ‘Maggot’ from the last book could compete. Freight Train who is the center of the story showed us the human side of the so-called “Supers” of Panopolis, the good and the ‘awful lot’ bad side of them and how ugly the people are behind all of these.

Enter Dr. Ari Mansourian who may have the all answers to all of Freight Train’s questions that he wasn’t supposed to ask. And he wasn’t supposed to feel.

What does it really take to be a hero?

I think Cari Z. just made this whole Panopolis series ‘a way legit must-read’ when she decided to go dark with its third installment. I don’t mean to say that the first two books, Where There’s Smoke and Where There’s Fire aren’t worth the read – uh, no – definitely not. I loved those two books and are two of my favorites from last year but this one just up the ante when it comes to fleshing out its characters and I totally loved what the author did here exploring deeper into the Panopolis and its Supers.

Fan of the series will feel for Craig Haney aka Freight Train and what he has been through that you’d just want to give him the biggest hug ever regardless of his force field. There was this vulnerability about him that I think people could easily relate to. His sacrifices and what he’s willing to give to save others, least prioritizing himself – being selfless that is makes up the core of Freight Train and I think readers will totally root for him. I know I did. It’s also fun to see the Mastermind (Edward Dinges) and the Mad Bombardier (Raul) again! So there’s that. I’m a happy kid!!!

While reading this, it also reminded me of Five For Fighting’s “Superman” – a very apt song for this book!

Again, what a truly delightful addition to the series that I can’t recommend this series highly enough! Do pick this one up and I swear, you won’t regret it!

About The Author
Cari Z. is a Colorado girl who loves snow and sunshine. She has a wonderful relationship with her husband, a complex relationship with the characters in her head and a sadomasochistic relationship with her exercise routine. She feels like Halloween should happen every month, which is why you get this picture of her, and hopes that you enjoy reading what she’s put out there as much as she enjoyed writing it in the first place.

Thank you, Mr. Pat Conroy!

‘Tis a sad day for me as I was greeted with the terrible news that Pat Conroy lost his battle to cancer, one of my literary heroes. I became a massive fan of Mr. Conroy after reading Beach Music several years ago, which inevitably changed my perception of life and helped me through my darkest moments. Also, reading every book he’d written in between made me realize so much about myself, other people, and, as I’ve said, my perception of life in general.

Pat Conroy was born Donal Patrick Conroy on October 26, 1945, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the eldest of seven children born to Marine Colonel Donal Conroy and Frances Peek. He’d written several acclaimed novels and memoirs, including The Prince Of Tides and The Great Santini, made into Oscar-nominated films.

Pat Conroy died at his home Friday in Beaufort, South Carolina, surrounded by family and loved ones, according to his publisher on March 4, 2016. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer. He was 70.

Your legacy will live on! Thank you.

Book Review: Taylor Maid – Tara Lain

Taylor MaidPublished March 1st 2016
Format: Novel
Genre And Theme: Romance / Contemporary
Length: 218 pages, ebook
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Ebook ISBN: 9781634768146
Cover Artist: Paul Richmond
Characters: Taylor Fitzgerald, Alessandro Macias, Ally May

On the eve of his twenty-fifth birthday, Taylor Fitzgerald discovers that he must marry a woman before midnight or lose a fifty-million-dollar inheritance. Only problem is that he’s gay and who will he convinced to play as his last-minute bride?

Enter the beautiful maid, Ally May from Vegas. She’s the perfect candidate for Taylor’s plan but Ally is actually Alessandro Macias, son of a Brazilian hotel magnate who’s also on the run. With all these pretense, will they be able to make it work and realized in the end that they’re actually made for each other?

This was just sweetness overload! I really enjoyed reading this one! I loved Taylor and Ally so much and their love-story is just oozing with cuteness! It’s obviously a play from Chris O’Donnell’s The Bachelor and I just adore everything about it! It also reminds me of Sinders and Ash from the autho’s. Remember Sinders penchant for wearing her own designs?

This was my first from the Dreamspun Series and I’ve read not so many good reviews from the earlier books so I’m kinda worried on picking this up and I’m sure glad I did because it was everything I needed at the moment – something feel good, something really sweet and truly romantic! I highly recommend this one!
