Book Review: A Way Home (Gay Amish Romance #3) – Keira Andrews

A Way HomeIt took me forever to write the review for this book because I just can’t seem to get over their story yet. This was the last of the Gay Amish Romance trilogy and saying goodbye to my boys wasn’t that easy. So I summoned the courage to at least provide the review it deserves because this is one of the series from its genre that will really resonate with a lot of readers and something that readers of MM and non-MM would really enjoy.

The events from the last installment where David’s insecurity and self-doubt led him to distance himself from Isaac instead of talking about it made a great precedent for this third book. The betrayal aka the dick move of Clark (Aaron and Jen’s friend) became the eventual catalyst for Isaac to question David’s faithfulness. But Isaac (deep in his heart) couldn’t do it because he loves David more than his life and David (wrecked and a mess after what happened) feels the same way and even more If I may say so.

Now they need to head back to Zebulon – something that they didn’t see coming at all. When Isaac’s brother Nathan was diagnosed with cancer, they know that they have to be there for him.  Despite the strain in their relationship, both Isaac and David still faced their respective families together, which proved to be more complicated than before because they’re constantly being pressured to return to their Amish life.

Their relationship is now at a fragile state and mixed it with family issues from both side – will they succumb to pressure or will they finally be able to find their way back to each other?

There are a lot of emotions that this book stirred up from me more than the first two installments. It was like the culmination of something that they have fought for and though I already know that they will have a happy ending, I was thinking how they would go about it. Will there be another “squabble” between the two? Will there be more feelings to be hurt, more jealousy to come or will there be a massive catfight. You have to read it to find out of course.

I was very happy with the turn of events for our boys. Of course, their families are still adamant for them to repent and return home but their conviction is sealed and neither plea nor any desperate measure could separate the two. They’re one at heart and I think that is what’ so beautiful from the very start about Isaac and David. Their love for each other is so pure that it almost hurt.

Even the eventual return of Aaron was so beautiful that it’s heartbreaking. All throughout the process when Nathan was confined in the hospital, I was seething with rage about the hypocrisy of the whole thing and they even have to think about what Aaron’s was offering. Goodness, I’d just like to whack them so hard!

At last, I just have to mention Isaac and David’s reunion after the incident in San Francisco – it was beautiful, just beautiful. I loved how tender it was and I loved how author didn’t see the need to drag the drama that was Clark. After reading the second book, I was so mad with Clark after this installment – it’s almost pointless to even talk about the incident. I think that was real wise of the author to still discuss it but push aside the topic right away.

And that conclusion! God, these boys are like my little babies. I want them to do well in the “English life” and I want all of their dreams to come true. I want them to get married and I want them to have cute little babies!

I guess with all my blabbering, I just wanted to thank Keira Andrews for giving us a beautiful finale of this trilogy. It’s definitely one of the best series out there and I couldn’t ask for a better conclusion for the series. Thank you Keira!

Book Review: Astounding! – Kim Fielding

Astounding! In one word, the book title says it all – this new release of Ms. Fielding is nothing short of astounding! But of course, I won’t stop with that just because…

Astounding! is the once popular spec fiction magazine founded by Carter Evans with his then boyfriend Freddy Morgan who has gone on to become a very successful writer. The magazine is dying and so as Carter’s hope to resurrect it and his future. In a drunken haze, Carter wrote a vile rejection letter towards a mysterious writer J. Harper who keeps on sending him terrible submission one after another.

As he came to his senses and guilt eats him up about the letter, Carter decided to pay J. Harper a visit himself and decline the latest manuscript he received more amiable this time. It turns out that J. Harper is a sweet man who looked like the 50’s movie star Tab Hunter and who also claims to be an alien. Now despite his ludicrous claim, Carter still finds himself drawn to the man. As he invites him on a road trip, Carter discovers some things that he only thought could happen in his magazine – and that he’s part of every minute of it.

I am more than impressed with this latest effort of Kim Fielding. I can’t even begin to describe my admiration towards her writing. I’ve read quite a few books from her catalogue and 95% of those are 5 stars from me. This one is definitely one of them.

Astounding! has beautiful characters with beautiful story and the development of the story from the get go was nothing short of amazing.

The character of J. Harper or John is one of the most unforgettable out of the author’s number of MCs. There’s something about his vulnerability and sweet demeanor that makes you want to cuddle him and tell him that everything’s going to be alright. I loved that about Kim Fielding! She creates character that resonates with her readers. That is the same with Carter’s characterization of course.

Also, I thought it was beautiful how Ms. Fielding gave us an update about the characters from her other novels which includes the guys from Bone Dry, Speechless and Tin Box as they appeared in this novel to somehow give color to the story. I was more than happy to see Karl  because he reminds me so much of John here. Perhaps it’s because they’re both non-human and their vulnerability from the start and that sweet innocence was always there.

This is no doubt one of the author’s best efforts and the fluidity of her writing is just amazing that I find myself getting lost for words on just how beautiful this story is.

Ms. Fielding, you truly are one of a kind. Thank you.

About The Author
Kim Fielding lives in California and travels as often as she can manage. A professor by day, at night she rushes into a phonebooth to change into her author costume (which involves comfy clothes instead of Spandex and is, sadly, lacking a cape). Her superpowers include the ability to write nearly anywhere, often while simultaneously doling out homework assistance to her children. Her favorite word to describe herself is “eclectic” and she finally got that third tattoo.

All royalties from her novels Stasis, Flux and Equipoise are donated to Doctors Without Borders.

Book Review: Clef Notes – Elaine White

Clef NotesI was very much in love with The Cellist and having the characters’ stories continue with Clef Notes was a total blast! In general, this collection of stories based on the characters from The Cellist may give you answers about the actions of most of its characters . There are four more stories from four other couple aside from our beautiful boys – Roman, my book boyfriend Ben and there’s of course, Jaxton.

Here are my individual reviews for each couple’s story.

Captivate Me:  Jalen + Piper

I didn’t get the deal with Piper’s change in demeanor at first. At least it was insta-lust for them and not some sort of “im-so-glad-i-found-you-because-youre-my-soulmate” kind of thing.

@10% I was a bit wondering about their “ten months of lingering kisses, careful caresses and lots of dates in public places…” 10 months with no sex – like all the way – at all?! And one of the main reasons is because HE IS TOO BIG. Smirk. And that’s according to Jalen himself.

Rating: 3/5

A Case Of The Ex: Stanton + Barry

I totally loved this one! I thought this could even be a full length novel but yeah – case closed. I just loved the whole thing about Stanton finally realizing his mistake when Barry asked him to be his “boyfriend.” It was just all so sweet in the end. My heart just melts with boys crying for lost love “)

Rating: 5/5

Off The Record: Bruno + Lyon

Yay at this development! Finally the “lyon” has settled down! I thought it was very short though and of course, Lyon was such a dick over Jaxton in the first book so it’s good that he finally has moved on.

Rating: 4/5

Cinnamon Kiss: Thayer + Castel

I honestly didn’t expect Thayer to get a space here. At least everything got cleared from Thayer’s perspective. I thought the whole thing with Castel was a bit rushed but I still enjoyed it more than Jalen’s and Lyon’s story.

Rating: 4.5/5

From The Heart: Roman + Ben + Jaxton

I’m still in love with these three! They have such explosive chemistry and it’s such a pleasure getting some insights on the progress of their relationship!

Rating: 5/5

So to sum this up, my total rating would be 4.3 stars! I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed Thayer’s story that much since everybody seems to hate him in the first book. Then there’s Stanton whom I didn’t seem to connect with before but his story ought to be a full-on novel in my opinion. And the ample sex scenes here are just oohh-I-think-Im-Gonna-Need-Some-Cold-Splash-Asap kind of thing because damn, they’re super freaking hot! This is a must-read for those who enjoyed The Cellist and if you haven’t picked it up – aarrrggghhh, do it now!

Monika Sta. Maria for Zalora Magazine [Fashion Editorial]

Monika X Zalora Summer BohoDespite not winning the title of Asia’s Next Top Model, first runner-up Monika Sta. Maria still keeps on getting gigs in and out of the country.

Monika X Zalora 3

Just recently, she was featured in Zalora Fashion Magazine’s fashion editorial featuring summer’s most chimed trend, Summer Boho. And can I just say that she just looked amazing! I think she even looks better than when she was in the show.

Monika X Zalora 5

She also did an interview for the online magazine. Here’s the excerpt of that interview:

During our exclusive Summer Boho editorial shoot with Monica, we found some time for a coffee and the skinny on what really happened in the house, and what life has been like since Asia’s Next Top Model.

Congratulations on getting to 1st runner up on Asia’s Next Top Model, how has life been since finishing the competition?

Thank you! It has been so overwhelming since the competition! I felt so much love and support from everyone who watched the series. I feel so happy and blessed!

You won four challenges and had a strong media following throughout, don’t you feel slightly cheated?

Of course I was sad because I was so so close to the title! But after the show, the support that I felt from the viewers really cheered me up, they boosted my confidence because whilst on the show I proved that I have got what it takes!

Check out the rest of the interview and Monika’s looks by clicking here.

Personally, my homegirl is my pick for the Top Model title but hey – a real top model is the one who could book jobs yeah? So here’s to Monika and her way to the top in and out of Asia!

As of this posting, Mame is currently competing as Miss Maryland for this year’s Miss USA beauty pageant [finals night to be held next week.] Of course we all know that the upcoming cycle of Top Model was already taped for months now so this endeavor of Miss Adjei is kinda giving me the vibe that she didn’t win the competition. In the history of ANTM (as far as my fuzzy memory could remember, the beauty queen types are almost always criticizes for being too beauty queen – remember the very religious Robin of Cycle 1? The beautiful Indian girl from Cycle 9 or 8?) I could be totally wrong though, because this girl is just too beautiful for words!

Review: Hangganan (A Short Story) by Aris Santos

HanggananMarubdob at makahulugan.
