My Miss Universe 2012 Is Miss Philippines – Janine Tugonon!

I am joining the herds of pageant fans thinking that it should’ve been Janine Tugonon, Miss Universe Philippines 2012 who should be wearing the Miss Universe Diamond Nexus crown today but the decision has been made and Miss USA – Olivia Culpo was declared the brightest star in the Universe. Olivia isn’t on my Top 16 list after the preliminary competition and I only placed her 11th on my prediction which I posted in a popular pageant site missosology. I guess, it wasn’t really the time for the Philippines to win its third Miss Universe crown – not just yet.

I’ve been vocal about not being the biggest fan of Janine Tugonon ever since she joined the Binibining Pilipinas 2011 but I already accepted the fact that she’d be the one to carry the Philippine flag so I just prayed that she’ll be able to carry on the achievements of Venus Raj and Shamcey Supsup. I was proven wrong several times by this girl with her sheer determination and perseverance to prove her critics wrong and be a great representative of our country.

Today in Manila and last night in Las Vegas, Janine showed the world what a true Filipina is – beautiful, intelligent and sophisticated. I am very proud of what she have accomplished and even if she didn’t win the crown, in my heart and in the hearts of every Filipino – she is the Miss Universe 2012.

‘better late than never aye “) Everyone’s been raving about this Maranaw-inspired traditional costume designed by Pitoy Moreno. It’s a far fetched costume from the usual “terno” that our representatives have been wearing from the past years. I actually loved it and Janine carried it with class and elegance! Way to represent Janine!

My Top 16 For Miss Universe 2012 After The Preliminary Competition!

I just finished reviewing the Miss Universe 2012 preliminary competition and I sure had a tough time grading each delegate’s performances. I came up with my top 16 (17 that is, because there’s a tie for the last spot.) My Top 16 is based solely on the telecast preliminary and does not include their interview (obviously.) Last year, I got eight over 16 and three of my choices were part of the finalists (Miss Universe 2011 – Angola, 3rd runner-up Philippines and 4th runner-up China.) I’m hoping that I’d get more this year haha. Who are your top 16?

The preliminary competition concluded last night in Las Vegas and just a few hours ago here in Manila and I’m still reviewing the performances of the 89 contestants to come up with my Top 16! While doing so, here’s our very own Janine Tugonon in her “official evening gown” during the Evening Gown portion of the prelims. What do you think of the gown and how she sashay with it? Love it or hate it?

Janine Tugonon’s Glamour Shot / Fadil Shot for Miss Universe 2012

Here’s Miss Universe-Philippines’ Janine Tugonon looking so fierce and hot in her Miss Universe glamor shot also known as her “Fadil Shot” shot by the Miss Universe Organization’s official photographer Fadil Berisha. This in my opinion is one of the best glam shots this edition! It can rival Venus Raj’s 2010 Fadil shot but we all know no one can topped Queen V. 🙂 Things are looking good for Janine based on her candid and official pictures. I’m hoping that these would translate into the prelims and the finals! Go Janine!

Janine Tugonon’s Evening Gown Portrait For Miss Universe 2012

Here’s Janine posing for the camera wearing this yellow chiffon beaded gown. In all honesty, this gown isn’t working at all. The color does suit Janine’s skintone but the design is horrific. It looks dated and too heavy for her. I am hoping that she’d use a different evening gown come preliminaries and finals night just like what Venus and Shamcey did during their stints.

Here’s Miss Universe-Philippines 2012 killing this swimsuit shot at the on-going Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas. I’m awestruck upon seeing this photo because this is a totally different Janine from the national pageant. She’s got a rocking body and look at those bone structures! ‘girl better nail the Evening Gown shot easily because right now, she’s one of the biggest forces to reckon with!

Miss Universe Philippines Janine Tugonon’s Transformation!

I was not a big fan of 2011 Binibining Pilipinas first runner-up Janine Tugonon’s decision in joining the Binibining Pilipinas this year because I do not think that she was ready. If I’m being honest, I’d say that she’s not in good shape during the national pageant in April and I was a bit frustrated that she won the most important title of the evening. I was rooting for another candidate then and went home disappointed. ‘Lo and behold though, after seven months of rigorous training – Janine went from being a clapper to a possible winner in this year’s Miss Universe to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 19.

Janine’s beauty reminds me of Miss Universe 1999 first runner-up Miriam Quiambao and her mannerisms are that of Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up Shamcey Supsup which I think will be a lethal combination come next month.

Here are the latest glam shots of Janine showing her new curves and queenly aura! Is Janine destined to be our country’s third Miss Universe or will she be able to achieve the success of Venus and Shamcey placing in the top five from the last two edition of the pageant? All I can do is wish her good luck and offer my prayer that she may bring honor to our country! Mabuhay ka Janine!

2012 Binibining Pilipinas Winners – Up Close and Not Too Personal!

So I was actually late at the venue and the male host Xian Lim just announced the winners of some special awards and right after was the announcement of the top 12 semifinalist. It was an easy call because my favorites were all called except for Jaine Hidalgo. I really wondered why? Hmmm. Anyways, I was very satisfied with most of the candidates answers during the Q and A portion with just a couple of ladies faltering in answering their questions – those were Liezl Alcantara who apparently “misheard” the question and Annalie Forbes who really had “an old fashion choking moment” but was allowed to answer beyond the 30 seconds limit. I thought she handled herself well and was still very poised. It was just surprising that she end-up winning 2nd runner-up with Elaine Kay Moll, the tallest candidate hailed as the first runner-up.

I actually predicted the two main winners correctly, that is Nicole Schmitz for Binibining Pilipinas – International and Katrina Dimaranan for Binibining Pilipinas- Tourism but I was in total awe when they annouced Janine Tugonon’s name as the successor for the Miss Universe – Philippines. I mean, it was a bit expected since there were rumors that the title was already reserved for her but I really thought that crowd’s favorite MJ Lastimosa outshined her all through out the evening who is also a repeater of the pageant.

Anyways, it’s all good though. Janine still has about eight months to prepare for the Miss Universe and I’m hoping that she’ll represent our country as well as the other two in such a way that we could be proud of!

2012 Binibining Pilipinas Parade Of Beauties Snippets

Here are some of the pics that I took from this year’s Binibining Pilipinas Parade Of Beauties that was held last Saturday, March 25 around Araneta Center, Cubao. This time though, the candidates are clad in some elegant one-piece bikinis which I thought are more appropriate compared to previous years where contestants are in two-piece skimpy bikinis. Kudos to the BBP team!
