The preliminary competition concluded last night in Las Vegas and just a few hours ago here in Manila and I’m still reviewing the performances of the 89 contestants to come up with my Top 16! The first call out went to Helena (her 2nd FCO) followed by Stephanie, Jee, Rachel, Filantropi, Sofia, Melissa, Jessica, Kate, Trang. Bei Si and Aastha’s photos are deemed the worst this week and the girl that got the boot is… Bei Si – bye girl!
Here’s Miss Universe-Philippines’ Janine Tugonon looking so fierce and hot in her Miss Universe glamor shot also known as her “Fadil Shot” shot by the Miss Universe Organization’s official photographer Fadil Berisha. This in my opinion is one of the best glam shots this edition! It can rival Venus Raj’s 2010 Fadil shot but we all know no one can topped Queen V. 🙂 Things are looking good for Janine based on her candid and official pictures. I’m hoping that these would translate into the prelims and the finals! Go Janine!

Here’s Janine posing for the camera wearing this yellow chiffon beaded gown. In all honesty, this gown isn’t working at all. The color does suit Janine’s skintone but the design is horrific. It looks dated and too heavy for her. I am hoping that she’d use a different evening gown come preliminaries and finals night just like what Venus and Shamcey did during their stints.

Here’s Miss Universe-Philippines 2012 killing this swimsuit shot at the on-going Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas. I’m awestruck upon seeing this photo because this is a totally different Janine from the national pageant. She’s got a rocking body and look at those bone structures! ‘girl better nail the Evening Gown shot easily because right now, she’s one of the biggest forces to reckon with!

Shamcey During The Miss Universe 2011 Evening Gown Competition
The Miss Universe Organization officially announced on their site that our very own Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up Shamcey Supsup was chosen to host the web series of this year’s Miss Universe 2012 aptly titled “On The Scene” bringing the pageant’s fans exclusive behind the scenes footage of the events leading to the finals on December 19.

Episode two had its fair share of surprising conclusions. The girls had a fashion show for their challenge where Trang emerged as the winner (FYI: Trang was part of Vietnam’s Next Top Model Cycle 2) . During the photo shoot the girls were divided into three groups for a posed off in a Prada shoot for Harper’s Bazaar (how’s that?) portraying virtual princesses. Monica of Thailand had to quit after receiving news that her father is sick. At the judging panel, Rachel Erasmus (India) fainted and had to be taken out of the room for medical treatment. Here are the three group photos from this episode – was it a well deserved First Call Out for the girl who got it? Who should’ve left the competition?

I was not a big fan of 2011 Binibining Pilipinas first runner-up Janine Tugonon’s decision in joining the Binibining Pilipinas this year because I do not think that she was ready. If I’m being honest, I’d say that she’s not in good shape during the national pageant in April and I was a bit frustrated that she won the most important title of the evening. I was rooting for another candidate then and went home disappointed. ‘Lo and behold though, after seven months of rigorous training – Janine went from being a clapper to a possible winner in this year’s Miss Universe to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 19.
Janine’s beauty reminds me of Miss Universe 1999 first runner-up Miriam Quiambao and her mannerisms are that of Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up Shamcey Supsup which I think will be a lethal combination come next month.
Here are the latest glam shots of Janine showing her new curves and queenly aura! Is Janine destined to be our country’s third Miss Universe or will she be able to achieve the success of Venus and Shamcey placing in the top five from the last two edition of the pageant? All I can do is wish her good luck and offer my prayer that she may bring honor to our country! Mabuhay ka Janine!

The very first Asia’s Next Top Model had its premiere yesterday featuring 14 aspiring models from the far east and south east Asia. Former MTV Asia VJ Nadya Hutagalung served as the head judge and host at the same time with Fashion Director Daniey Boey, Model Joey Mead King and Fashion photographer Todd Anthony completing the panel of judges in choosing the next top model in this side of the world.
