All Eyes On MJ Lastimosa: THE Body of Miss Universe 2014!

MJ Lastimosa

I don’t usually brag like this about our beauty pageant delegates but this picture simply cemented Miss Universe Philippines 2014 Mary Jean Lastimosa as one of the girls to watch out for at the upcoming Miss Universe pageant in Doral, Miami this month! Pageant fans and pundits know that MJ doesn’t need the help of Photoshop when it comes to that body! This girl is just WOW.

Here’s To A Great 2015!!!

It’s the dawn of the new year and another time to make some changes and be the better version of ourselves!

I’ve tons of New Year’s Resolution but my priority is to take better care of my health. I realized that I’m not getting any younger so I’ve to make a lot of adjustments with my diet and lifestyle.

I’d also try to get into sports  – I loved watching football and play with my brother Nelson every once in a while but I’m planning to take on running. 🙂 Maybe complete a marathon before my birthday this year?

a couple of years ago when I was still a member of our local gym. Gah! I also need to hit the gym soon!!!!!

a couple of years ago when I was still a member of our local gym. Gah! I also need to hit the gym soon!!!!!

I’m also keen on continuing my traveling! I think 2015 would be a great year to see tons of places again. 🙂

nvs2I’ve been busy reading tons of stuff over the course of the last year and I ought to continue that habit. (I’ve read 335 titles in 2014)  I think it helps me clear my mind a lot and somehow [cheesy alert] relaxes my soul.

Books

Okay, I’ll stop blabbing now but lemme tell you at last that I’d still continue to blog anything I’m interested with to share with you guys. So there, I just wanna wish you guys a great and happy 2015!!!! Yay!!!

Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss is Miss World 2014!!!

South Africa Crowning Moments

Rolene Strauss crowned by outgoing Miss World 2013 Megan Young

A favorite by pageant fans and pundits since winning her national pageant, Rolene Strauss was a perennial top contender for the blue crown all throughout the competition. Rolene is a 4th year medical student at the University of the Free State and has a passion for health, women and South Africa. Interestingly,  Rolene is actually a test tube baby and grew up in a small town called Volksrust, in Mpumalanga.

South Africa

Rolene is the first woman from South Africa to win the Miss World crown since Penelope Anne Coelen [1958] and Anneline Kriel [1974] held the title. Edina Kulcsar of Hungary and Elizabeth Safrit were adjudged first and second runners-up resepectively with Courtney Thorpe of Australia and Carina Tyrell of England completing the Top five.

Rolene was also set to compete on January for the Miss Universe pageant in Doral, Miami, Florida has she not won the crown or any runners-up post.

The supposed 2014 edition of the Miss Universe pageant will be held on January 25 of next year at the U.S. Century Bank Arena in Doral, Miami, Floria and every pageant fans and pundits are totally bubbling up with excitement!

Philippine delegate Mary Jean Lastimosa (who waited for almost a year and is the last 2014 Binibining Pilipinas queen to be fielded internationally) is also gearing up in the hopes of winning the third Miss Universe crown for the Philippines. It’s been a good 41 years since the Philippines won the crown when Margarita Moran won in Greece – just three years after Gloria Diaz won the 1969 edition.

Most recently, the Philippines have consistently placed in the Top 5 from the last four years where Janine Tugonon almost snatched the crown in 2012 from eventual winner Olivia Culpo of the USA.

And I’ve a feeling that the 63rd edition of the pageant in January will be a battle royale of beauty, poise and wits! I’m also getting a good feeling for MJ! She just look extremely ravishing!!!

Not Much Of A Difference

AIDSThere’s not much of a difference between a person with AIDS and a person without it.

There’s not much of a difference between Africa and Asia or America and Australia.

There’s not much of a difference between a homosexual and a straight man.

There’s not much of a difference between a pregnant woman and a newborn infant.

 Yes, there’s not much of a difference…

What will make a difference though, is YOU.

An open mind and an understanding heart

So spread the knowledge and not the virus!

I remember writing this one over my old Blogger account back in December 1, 2009 and decided to post it here five years after – it’s World Aids Day today. It is held on 1 December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988.

In the Philippines, the increasing number of human immunodeficiency virus-acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV- AIDS) cases is quite alarming especially with the study conducted by the Department of Health (DOH) stating that more young Filipinos have acquired HIV. Data from the Philippine HIV/AIDS Registry showed that in January this year alone, 118 of the new HIV patients belong to the 15 to 24 age bracket.

This increase of HIV Cases prompted lawmakes to ammend the Republic Act 8504 or the National AIDS Prevention and Control Act of 1998 stating that said law’s provisions “no longer respond to the current challenges of the concentrated HIV epidemic in the Philippines.” Representative Rodel Batocabe of Ako Bicol said the proposed amendments seek to promote HIV testing of minors even without parental consent. source

The proposed amendment still remains a contentious issue in the congress. But really, this information is really disconcerting especially with kids getting involved in risky sex. I won’t even go over the RH Law debacle because it’s just frustrating to hear sides warring instead of actually listening. I think with these new developments, we should all just be together and keep an open mind in supporting each case and battling the disease.

Completing the elemental queens are: Miss USA Andrea Neu as Miss Air, Miss Venezuela Maira Alexandra Rodriguez as Miss Water and Miss Russia Anastasia Krysova as Miss Fire.

I won’t even give much thought about the grousing calls from other netizens about home court advantage and such because things like winning in your home turf happens all the time and since Jamie clearly made an impressive show last night, I won’t take the credit from the girl!

Congratulations Jamie Herrell! Mabuhay Ka!

Here’s what Miss Philippines Valerie Weigmann wore during the Top Model fast track event of the on-going Miss World 2014 in London.

This yellow ball gown was designed by Michael Cinco. Reigning Miss World Megan Young won this fast track event last year in Bali.

Trivia: Back in 2012, Michael Cinco’s creation for Queenerich Rehman won the World Designer Award.

Update: Unfortunately, Val was not part of the Top 20 finalists for the Top Model Event. Based on recent Miss World trends, making an impression in this fast track event is a good indication of making it very far in the competition but I think it’s too early to tell that this would prevent Val from getting ahead since there are still fast track events in store for the girls plus the all-important judges one-on-one interview. Let’s just keep supporting Valerie and pray that she’d do all throughout the competition 🙂

Miss World 2014 Journey: Philippines’ bet Valerie Weigmann in London…So Far

Miss World 2014 ProfileMiss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann left for London last November 20 to compete for this year’s edition of Miss World where fellow Filipina Megan Young is the current title holder. Valerie knows that there’s pressure for her to continue the winning streak of the country in the said pageant and it looks like she’s up for the challenge to make it a back-to-back win for the Philippines.

So here’s what she is up to so far in London – the host city this year and also the home base of the Miss World Organization.

Upon arrival… she’s looking mighty pretty here.

With Miss GermanyShe’s roommate with Miss Germany Egzonita Ala – with Valerie being half-German, I’m sure they would really hit it off big time.

And here’s Valerie’s costume for Dances Of The World segment of the pageant. I’m hoping she’d be chosen to perform during the said segment.

And here’s one of the gowns she’ll be wearing for the Formal Evening Gown competition (this maybe for Top Model segment or the World Fashion Designer segment they used to have)

Yvethe Santiago’s Back-To-Back Campaign For The Miss Supranational 2014 Crown!

Yvethe Santiago

Last Sunday saw the arrival of the Philippines’ rep Yvethe Marie Santiago into this year’s edition of Miss Supranational in Krynica-Zdroj, Poland. The Bicolandia beauty and reigning Binibining Pilipinas Supranational is set to start her campaign for a back-to-back win after fellow Binibini and Miss Supranational 2013 Mutya Johanna Datul snagged the crown last year during the fifth edition of the pageant.

Santiago, a favorite to win since the start of the Binibining Pilipinas season is confident that she’ll do well in the pageant having trained by former Binibining Pilipinas winners and getting the encouragement from Mutya Datul herself.

I’m sure Yvethe will do her best to represent the country but she’ll also need our support to carry through her campaign of winning it back #forthePhilippines.

Miss Supranational 2014 finals will be held in Krynica-Zdroj, Poland on December 5th.

Good Luck Yvethe! Mabuhay ka!

Review: There Be Dragons (2011)

via wikipedia

via wikipedia

One thing that I didn’t like about this film is that there are so many things happening in it. It was uninteresting at most parts and failed to deliver the theme at its maximum potential. The film focuses on forgiveness that inspects some aspect of life, its meaning and its purpose.

Robert is a journalist writing a book and is trying to reconcile with his dying father whom he interviewed for his project and discovered that he had been a close friend of Josemaria Escriva, the founder of the Opus Dei movement. The story went deep as Robert learned about the dark past of his father, reluctantly sharing the stories to his son. The story takes place during the Spanish Civil War that seemed to topple what good potentials the film promised at the beginning. The production was good but it was lackluster in execution. It didn’t quite lived up to its promise of grandeur and even the extras having parts in the film were quite terrible!

It was interesting to note that Charlie Cox who played Josemaria Escriva was quite impressive that you actually believe him and feel everything that he’s saying from his eyes. He was quite mesmerizing on the screen if I’m being honest.

The rest of the cast were just miscast-ed or perhaps shown in such a way that are not as believable as Cox. The film would have been great if (in my opinion) Wes Bentley’s character, Manolo was played by another actor like Gael Garcia Bernal. I just don’t see enough conviction from him and even Dougray Scott who played Robert was a total disappointment.

I’m not really sure what pushes me to watch this film. It was quite interesting in its trailer but was a total disaster in its entirety. The film was okay for like the first few minutes but it went downhill up to the last part of it. Perhaps, I wasn’t feeling nice when I watched it.
Rating: 5 / 10
Director: Roland Joffe
Starring: Charlie Cox, Wes Bentley, Dougray Scott, Unax Ugalde, Olga Kurklenko, Rodrigo Santoro, Geraldine Chaplin, Golshiften Farahani
