Book Review: Reservations – Kindle Alexander

You all know how much I adore their work. Just search Kindle Alexander in my search bar to the right, and you’ll see. It’s incredible how effortlessly they create characters you can’t help but fall in love with. (Or maybe it just seems effortless because every single time… come on, girls!)

“Reservations” is no exception. I was genuinely excited when they revealed the cover, and it truly is beautiful. I found myself wondering, what could this book be about?

Well, “Reservations” lives up to its stunning cover. As expected, Kindle Alexander delivers once again.

Levi Silva’s dream of becoming a doctor is put on hold after his father’s death from cancer leaves him responsible for raising two teenage boys on his own. With ends barely meeting, he finds himself working in a gentlemen’s club called Reservations.

Enter Thane Walker, the commitment-phobic owner of Reservations, who is captivated by Levi’s beauty and demeanor. Both are stubborn and know what they want from a relationship.

The story delves into exactly that. Thane is utterly frustrating and an A-grade A-hole in the beginning, but as the story progresses and we learn more about his past, things start to make sense. Levi, on the other hand, is on point in every way. I found myself totally high-fiving him for his decisions regarding Thane. The boy’s got guts! Haha!

Clearly, I’m on Team Levi, so it’s entertaining to watch Thane squirm! Speaking of “squirming,” there’s quite a bit of that—I don’t know if it’s just me, but I found myself more drawn to the pre- and post-sex scenes when they have meaningful conversations. That felt more intimate to me.

We also see some familiar faces from other books, and I was especially thrilled to see Reed Kensington! I loved “Up in Arms,” and I wish Trevor had made an appearance too!

Overall, this is another solid effort from the duo of Kindle Alexander. I absolutely adored the main characters. I also enjoyed reading about Luke, Logan, and the delightful Julian (hurry up with his story, please!!!), and I can’t recommend this book highly enough!

Book Review: Painted On My Heart – Kindle Alexander

Blurb: Artist Kellus Hardin let love and loyalty cloud his past decisions, a mistake he definitely won’t make again. Now, lost and alone, he’s left to pick up the shattered pieces of his broken heart while facing the truth of his reality.

Arik Layne exudes power, confidence, and determination. But when an encounter with the guarded artist shakes him to the core and alters all his future goals, he finds more than just his heart on the line.

For Kellus, opening himself to love isn’t an option.
All Arik wants is to make the artist his.
Can love create a masterpiece when it’s painted on your heart?

This may contain spoilers.

Now, this isn’t quite a backlog review, as I just finished reading this book this month. I know! I know! I haven’t been as active or up-to-date with all the books coming out lately because, well, adulting demands attention. But let’s not dwell on that. Straight to the point: I absolutely loved this book. LOVED IT.

There aren’t many authors who create main characters with HIV, most likely due to the stigma attached to it. Unfortunately, that stigma in real life tends to seep into the literature we consume as well. I’ve come across few books with main characters afflicted by HIV that are as well-crafted and compelling as this one. I truly appreciated what the author did here. It was touching.

The story is incredibly emotional, perhaps the most angst-filled book by these authors. The sorrow emanating from Kellus is almost tangible on every page. The lost love, lost respect, lost lover… it’s heartbreaking.

Arik’s entrance into his life is like a lifeline. He is exactly what Kellus needed in order to move forward. The intensity of their chemistry is undeniable, and their love feels genuine. It wasn’t rushed, but it wasn’t dragging its feet either. They took their time.

Arik’s role in helping Kellus heal is beautiful. I’m deeply moved by these two characters.

While there are moments of frustration throughout the story, they are overshadowed by Arik’s personality and Kellus’s acceptance of love and loss.

I simply want to express my gratitude to the authors for creating this beautiful book. Highly recommended.

Book Review: Full Domain (Nice Guys, #3) – Kindle Alexander

I thought I should share this review before I post my upcoming reviews for two other works by the authors. This is another backlogged review, one that I hadn’t posted here since I shared a mini-review on Goodreads back in January of last year.

To be fair and honest, I am a fan of the authors—yes, in case you’re still unaware—Kindle Alexander is a duo of lovely ladies who adore the LGBTQ+ community, just like myself, and they’re enriching our lives with their magnificent writing!

First, let’s talk about that cover. I mean, come on, it’s a work of art in itself. I want to print that cover and hang it on my wall.

Now, onto the not-so-easy part: copying and pasting my review from Goodreads. This is, admittedly, my least favorite from the duo, and I have to say, I loved all of their books prior to this one. Let’s start by reading the blurb:

Honor, integrity, and loyalty are how Deputy US Marshal Kreed Sinacola lives his life. A former SEAL now employed by the Special Operations Group of the US Marshal Service, Kreed spent most of his life working covert operations and avoiding relationships. Never one to mix business with pleasure, his boundaries blur and his convictions are put to the test when he finally comes face-to-face with the hot computer geek he’s been partnered with. Hell-bent on closing the ongoing case for his longtime friend, he pushes past his own limits and uncovers more than he expects.

Aaron Stuart strives for one thing: justice. Young and full of idealism, his highly sought after computer skills land him a position with the National Security Agency. Aaron’s biggest hazard at his job is cramped fingers, but all that changes when he is drawn into the middle of a dangerous federal investigation. Aaron gets more than he bargained for when the FBI partners him with a handsome and tempting deputy US marshal. His attraction to the inked up, dark-haired man provides another kind of threat altogether. Aaron tries desperately to place a firewall around his heart and fight his developing feelings, knowing one misstep on his part could ultimately destroy him.

The solution isn’t as easy as solving the case, which is treacherous enough as it is. But the growing sexual attraction between them threatens to derail more than just Kreed’s personal convictions as he quickly learns temptation and matters of the heart rarely fit easily into the rules he’s lived by. Will Kreed be able to convince Aaron to open his heart and face the fact that sometimes the answers aren’t always hidden in code?

While I usually can’t stop talking about books by Kindle Alexander, this latest installment of the series left me feeling a bit unsatisfied. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I was hoping for something more innovative. It felt like a rehash of previous characters and plots, lacking the freshness I usually find in Alexander’s work.

Despite this, I must say that the book,as usual is well-written, even if it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. There were moments of repetition and an abundance of explicit scenes that made it a bit challenging to get through, and some character traits felt overplayed.

However, I don’t want to deter others from giving it a chance. It might just not have been my cup of tea, but I remain a fan of the author. After all, some of her other works are among my favorites in this genre, and I’m eager to see what she comes up with next.

Book Review: When First I Met My King (Arthur Trilogy ,#1) – Harper Fox

Publication Date: September 30th 2017 by FoxTales Publications
Themes & Genres: LGBTQ, Romance, Young Adult
Format: ebook, 138 pages
ASIN: B075G3Y8VP
Character: Lance, Arthur, Ector, Gaius

Blurb: Once upon a time, there was a winter that wouldn’t end. And all that’s standing between the people of White Meadows and starvation is a young man called Lance.

He’s sixteen years old, and for all his courage and hunting skills, he’s running out of fight. His family has been wiped out in a border raid, and he’s drowning in loneliness. When strangers arrive at White Meadows, all Lance can think of is using his last strength to drive them away.

But these men have come in peace, not to burn and destroy. Among them is a hot-headed, utterly charming prince-in-training named Arthur.

For Lance, Arthur’s arrival is like the return of the sun. The prince has everything – learning, battle skills, a splendid destiny. But as the days unfold in the remote northern settlement in the shadow of Hadrian’s Wall, it soon becomes clear that Arthur needs Lance, too.

I’ve to tell you though that prior to reading this, I’ve no clear background on the legends of Arthur, Lancelot all and I’ve only watched a couple of films, seen a bit of Merlin and read a few fan fiction which are all salacious in nature. Hah!

But hey, I am a huge, huge fan of Harper Fox so I’d eat up anything she offers. This story is actually kind of cute. I immediately fell for our two young adult protagonists. Lance is adorable with all his naivety and Arthur is plain riot! I loved that they have different voices! As per usual, the author’s lyrical writing is her absolute asset so you’d really get the feel of the era! I want more from these two! I’m so happy it’s a trilogy!!!

Highly recommended and this is from someone who doesn’t know shit about any Arthurian tales.

Book Review: Beard Science (Winston Brothers, #3) – Penny Reid

Publication Date: October 11th 2016 by Cipher-Naught
Themes & Genres: Romantic-Comedy, New Adult
Paperback, 384 pages
ISBN13: 9781942874256
Characters: Ashley Winston, Drew Runous, Jethro Winston, Billy Winston, Cletus Winston, Duane Winston, Beau Winston, Roscoe Winston, Jessica James, Claire McClure, Sienna Diaz, Jennifer Sylvester, Shelly Sullivan, Repo, Jackson James, Diane Donner-Sylvester, Kip Sylvester, Isaac Sylvester

Cletus is my favorite amongst the Winston brothers and I’m so happy that his story turned out to be the best so far in the series! I loved that we get to see the inner workings of Cletus’s brains and the way he makes the impossible possible! We also get here an flustered and out of control Cletus and the reason for that is a certain Jennifer Sylvester who happens to be as wickedly smart as him.

Jennifer aka the Banana Cake Queen has lived her life following her parents’ demands. She wanted to live her own life but she can’t because of the prison-like hold by the very people who claimed to loved her.

Until she catches Cletus doing something he shouldn’t be doing and decided to blackmail him into finding her a husband who could whisks her away from her very controlling parents.

This is just the third book in the series but it felt like I’ve known this guys for a very long time now. Aside from Cletus being my favorite brother, this installment is also my favorite and as I’ve said the best so far. I loved how Cletus and Jennifer balanced each other so well and their chemistry is just beyond! I loved the fun parts of it, the sexy ones and most especially the emotional part that even got me a bit teary,

I couldn’t ask for a better love story for Cletus. Penny Reid sure knows how to write brilliant romances that will leave you asking for more!

Book Review: The Foxling Soldati (Soldati Hearts, #2) – Charlie Cochet

Published August 16, 2017
Format: Novella
Genre And Theme: LGBTQ, Romance, Shifters, Comedy
Length: 119 pages, paperback
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Ebook ISBN/ASIN: B074C38876
Characters: Toka, Rayner

Blurb:
Foxling Toka has served the Soldati king for centuries, and now he attends to the kingdom’s cherished Soldati prince. It’s a position of honor, and as Toka helps the once-human prince adapt to their magical realm, he finds joy in their friendship. He also grows bolder in his encounters with Rayner, Soldati warrior and the king’s second. But the laws are clear: servants and Soldati are not permitted to mate. It doesn’t matter that Toka lost his heart to the dashing cad long ago.

Rayner never imagined he would fall in love with a servant, but the clever and beautiful foxling has ensnared him, and he resents the regulations keeping them apart. When an arrogant and spiteful king visits from a neighboring realm, Rayner is in danger of losing everything. But Soldati warriors don’t surrender, and he intends to fight all the harder to keep Toka where he belongs—in Rayner’s arms.

The second installment of The Soldati Hearts isn’t as strong as The Soldati Prince. I loved Toka – a foxling whose family has served the Soldati King for ages – in the first book and I loved him here but there’s just something missing with the story for me to connect well with his character.

Rayner, the second in command of the King of Soldati was also a bit of a drag here. I thought Riley and Khalon made it a more interesting read although I’ve to say that Khalon seriously got on my nerves. His old school politics thinking was just disgustingly stupid that he let poor Toka be dragged by that stupid Trump-like king whose name I couldn’t even remember.

Overall, I thought it was bit rushed and the conflict was a bit cliché. I’m not sure I’m excited with the next pairing.

Book Review: The Soldati Prince (Soldati Hearts, #1) – Charlie Cochet

Published November 23rd 2016 by Dreamspinner Press (first published August 25th 2015)
Themes and Genres: LGBTQI, Romance, Sci-Fi, Comedy
ebook, 2nd Edition, 97 pages
ISBN13: 9781634775809
Characters: Riley Murrough, Khalon

While living an ordinary and rather boring life, Riley soons learns that he is mated to a shape-shifter king from a magical realm. Khalon, the arrogant Soldati king isn’t happy that he’s mated to a powerless human. The feeling so happens to be mutual so they decided to see a priestess to have their bond reversed.

I got to read the second edition of this novella which was first published by JCP Books and was informed that it was a lot longer. I don’t know if there were any changes in it but I absolutely loved this universe and I especially loved Riley’s character.

Riley is absolutely adorable who kind of reminds me of Dex! I’m afraid I’ve set Dexter J. Daley (from the THIRDS series) as my Charlie Cochet’s standard of her main characters.

I also loved the slow building of their camaraderie which then grew into something more. I loved that little twist at the end because it finally made me like Khalon. I also loved the secondary characters and I cannot wait to read Toka’s story!

Overall, it’s another greay story from Charlie in yet another fantastic universe.

Book Review: Gummy Bears & Grenades (THIRDS, #9.5) – Charlie Cochet

Published October 4, 2017
Format: Novella
Genre And Theme: LGBTQ, Romance, Shifters, Comedy, Sci-Fi
Length: 102 pages, ebook
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Ebook ISBN/ASIN: 9781635339963
Characters: Dexter J. Daley, Sloane Broadie

THIRDS agent Dexter J. Daley can’t wait to marry his fiancé, Team Leader Sloane Brodie, but first he’s looking forward to celebrating his bachelor party—which he intends to be a shenanigans-free evening of getting his groove on with family and friends. Of course events don’t work out as planned, but for Dex that’s nothing new. One thing is for sure, dodging drug dealers and hired thugs amid booze, dancing—and even a bear costume—will guarantee it’s a night Dex will never forget. Now he just needs to survive all the fun. *** Enjoy this bonus story from the THIRDS universe. These events occur between Darkest Hour Before Dawn and Tried & True in the series timeline. While reading this story would enhance your experience of the THIRDS series, it is not necessary to read before Tried & True.

Oh! This is absolutely adorable in every level and a bit sinister for some reason. If you’re a fan of the series, you may already know that the THIRDS series is one novel away from its final installment so this bonus story before the last book is a very much needed read pre-TIN series!

It’s Dex’s bachelor party and you know that if Dex is involved, a slew of troubles follows him!

This is very short but like what I’ve mentioned, very adorable, sweet and just a whole lot of feels because not only Sloane and Dex are bonded by their DNA, but also how in sync they are with each other’s feelings. I just hope that they get to marry first before the start of the TIN series! I cannot wait to read the last installment of this beloved series and this little novella just made me all the more excited!

Book Review: Darkest Hour Before Dawn (THIRDS, #9) – Charlie Cochet

Published April 25, 2017
Format: Novel
Genre And Theme: LGBTQ, Romance, Shifters, Comedy, Sci-Fi
Length: 224 pages, ebook
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Ebook ISBN/ASIN: B06VVGRHCX
Characters: Sebastian Hobbs, Hudson Colbourn

THIRDS Team Leader Sebastian Hobbs and Chief Medical Examiner Hudson Colbourn are as much in love now as they were nearly seven years ago when a tragic event on the job destroyed their relationship. The two drift together only to be pulled apart time and time again. When Hudson draws the interest of dangerous enemies, both within and outside the organization, Seb wants nothing more than to protect the man who still means everything to him.

As life and death events, an uncertain future, and startling truths draw Hudson and Seb to each other yet again, they must make a choice: trust their love and take strength from what they share, or lose what matters most for good this time.

This is another of my backlogged reviews from the THIRDS series so here is it.

I am very surprised with this one. I wasn’t a big fan of the Hobbs siblings except for Ethan from the very start so I didn’t really expect to enjoy this one as much as I did. I thought Seb was an a-grade a-hole for doing what he did to Hudson but I guess, time really heals all wounds, including a wounded heart.

I loved that we get to see more of Seb’s vulnarability here and why he decided to stay away from Hudson and why Rafe is such an ass to Hudson. Seriously though, I’m still not a fan of the guy. I’m talking about Rafe.

Going back to Hudson and Seb. I loved that there were no unnecessary dramas to their story. It was very straight to the point and who would’ve thought that they will finally do it? I mean, THAT totally surprised me!

And the big reveal at the end was oh-so-satisfying although I’ve already guessed it from the start, it was still very clever!

This is once again, a very enjoyable THIRDS installment!

Book Review: Thick & Thin (THIRDS ,#8) – Charlie Cochet

Published February 1, 2017
Format: Novel
Genre And Theme: LGBTQ, Romance, Shifters, Comedy, Sci-Fi
Length: 95 pages, ebook
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Ebook ISBN: 9781635333893
Characters: Dexter J. Daley, Sloane Broady

This is one of my backlogged reviews, err, I keep on meaning to write one but keeps on forgetting it. This one is going to be quick though.

This is a rather sweet and emotional follow up after the events in Smoke & Mirrors. Dex is now engaged with Sloane, he died and was resurrected as half Therian and they know that sooner or later, they would have to come clean with their team.

I loved how Charlie drag their “coming out” to the team like this because it means that we get to see more of Dex and Sloane and the Destructive Delta team.

Here, you get to see how tight they are as a team – as a family. That scene with Ash was a bit uncomfortable but perhaps, if I were him, I’d feel the same way about my best friend.

There are pivotal moments involving the team and what they are about to embark on in the future but mainly, it is more about their acceptance to the changes not only with Dex but the dynamics of their group.

A really good read for the fans of the series! I totally approved!
