Binibining Pilipinas 2011 Winners, Special Awards And Afterthoughts

The pageant’s ticket stated that the program will start at 7PM but it actually started at around 9PM. Thank goodness, the beautiful goddesses of this year’s competition are worth the wait. It was somewhat a very predictable night with frontrunners and favorites actually winning.

Shamcey Supsup was crowned Binibining Pilipinas – Universe which was pretty obvious for me. From the very beginning, I thought that Shamcey delivered the goods. Her body isn’t perfect but she can still transform it to a better one. The evening gown she wore was hands down one of the better designs even if she didn’t win Best in Evening Gown. It’s as if her win was already a pre-determined one.

Diane Necio however delivered a rather lackluster performance in my opinion. She was definitely the judges and crowd favorite but I thought that the likes of Arevalo, Al-Tawil and Tumulak performed better than her. I’m not taking this away from her. The girl is beautiful but she’s not the best. Congratulations, though, her color would give the Miss International a beautiful flavor come international pageant time.

Isabella Manjon wore a disaster evening gown but her stage presence overpowered that hindrance to actually win the Binibining Pilipinas-Tourism title. She has such a beautiful face and the camera really loves her. Although we didn’t expect her to actually win a crown, we’re still happy that she did.

Janine Tugonon – I was shocked by her runner-up placement because I honestly do not remember a thing about her – or maybe I wasn’t really aware of her during the pre-pageant activities. Was the question given to her about the relevance of winning a beauty pageant at this time of chaos –it’s not the exact question but it’s something of this sort. Well, she didn’t exactly win a crown so I think it’s fair enough.

MJ Lastimosa – I was so disappointed that she didn’t win the Best In Swimsuit category. I really thought that it was already locked for her. She didn’t give a bad answer during the question and answer portion and her articulation was a-okay but I didn’t feel any confidence from her. She should try next year. Please MJ!

Top 10 Predictions For Binibining Pilipinas 2011

An expected 15 semifinalist will be chosen out of the 40 Candidates for this year’s Binibining Pilipinas but I’d only be predicting whom I think have the biggest chances of landing in the Top 10 as well as our winners prior to the pageant this coming Sunday, April 10 at the Araneta Coliseum. CLICK HERE FOR THE WINNERS AND SPECIAL AWARDS

MJ Lastimosa

Despite her lack of height, I strongly believe that MJ Lastimosa will captivate the judges on Sunday with her very strong stage presence, unique facial structure and that guitar-shaped body. She’s my first choice for Binibining Pilipinas-Universe. She’d definitely rock Brazil, that’s for sure.

Shamcey Supsup

I’m so impressed by her credentials I’m almost sure that Madam Stella Araneta would automatically give her the crown. Without question, she’s one of the strongest contestants this year. She’s got the height, the brains and that very Filipina look but I need more “landi” from her. For now, she’s my alternative to MJ.

Patricia Tumulak

It is a must that this ethereal beauty be crowned come Sunday. I also think  that she’d do great in Brazil for Miss Universe but I still have some doubts about her capabilities to outstage Shamcey’s height and MJ’s body. I’m reserving her the Binibining Pilipinas-Tourism crown.

Queenierich Rehman

I’m seeing a Krista Kliener 2.0 in Queenierich and I’d like to see her get that Bb.Pilipinas-International crown as well. Being a very articulate speaker, a mestiza with a good height – she can do no wrong come Miss International.

Sabrine Al-Tawil

Sabrine would’ve been perfect for a Miss World representation. The competition this year’s real tough; I’m thinking that she’d do well in Miss International but wI’d like to see her explore her options if she’s unlucky after Sunday’s event.

Philippines’ Next Top Models Grendel and Jenilyn Disqualified from Binibining Pilipinas 2011

After the official announcement of the 40 Official Candidates of this year Binibining Pilipinas, two of the front-runners were disqualified to continue their quest for the biggest pageant in the country. Philippines’ Next Top Model first and only winner (so far) Grendel Alvarado and PNTM 3rd placer Jenilyn Olivar were shockingly asked to leave the competition that will be held on April at the Araneta Coliseum.

Jenilyn Olivar

The Binibining Pilipinas Organization has yet to release a statement regarding their disqualifications but such cases are not new to the pageant’s history. Some of the most noted disqualifications includes model and VJ Joey Mead in 2001 due to her age which is  27 – the maximum age required for the pageant then is 25. In 2004, Actress Juliana Palermo was not allowed to join the pageant because of her appearance in a sexy film and in 2009, front runner Sandra Seifert was disqualified from the competition two days before the coronation night due to her FHM pictorials . Seifert end up winning the rival pageant Miss Earth-Philippines and bagged the runner-up crown at the Miss Earth pageant of the same year.  These are some of the wasted Binibining Pilipinas aspirants who are said to have great potentials in the international pageants. Binibining Pilipinas 2011 Official Candidates

For the first time in the pageant history, 40 beautiful ladies were chosen to vie for the three crowns of the Binibining Pilipinas 2011 which will be held at the Araneta Coliseum this coming April. The three winners will represent the country to the Miss Universe, Miss International and Miss Globe-International. CLICK HERE FOR THE WINNERS AND SPECIAL AWARDS

A few of the notable contestants includes Grendel Alvarado- winner of the first Philippines’ Next Top Model (Disqualified), Dianne Necio – last year’s first runner-up at the Binibining Pilipinas, Patricia Tumulak – winner of Miss Philippines Fire at the Miss Earth 2009, Luzelle Felipe who claimed to be a part-time tricycle driver and Roxanne Cabanero (Disqualified) who’s a dead ringer of last year’s Bb. Pilipinas-Universe and Miss Universe 4th Runner Up, Maria Venus Raj.

From the pictures below, who do you think has what it takes to win any of the three international crowns?

as of press time (03.24.11), four girls were already disqualified from the competition and 4 other girls from the screening were asked to comeback to complete the magic 40!
Disqualified from the competition are Grendel Alvarado, Jen Olivar -both are alums of Philippines Next Top Model, Roxanne Cabanero and most recently, Bianca Paz.

Grendel Alvarado, Philippines’ Next Top Model Joins Binibining Pilipinas 2011!

Grendel Alvarado, the first and only (so far) winner of the Philippines’  Top Model franchise has join the biggest beauty pageant in the the country, the Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) in search for this year’s delegates to  International competitions such as the Miss Universe and the Miss International.

Grendel (R)

Grendel’s editorial spread in  Preview Magazine.

Apparently, this lass from Bacolod is still young enough to meet the pageant’s age requirement which is 25  . During the Top Model search in 2007, Grendel was already 22 years old which make her 25 around this time. Sure, there’ll be no problem on her catwalk and fierce look but the girl is too editorial in our opinion to make it in the Miss Universe if ever she’ll make it pass the Binibining Pilipinas screening.

Grendel’s candid at the Binibining Pilipinas 2011 Screening c/o Missosology

(apparently, the organizer accepted her application despite being 26 as we speak thus her only chance to compete is at the Miss Universe Pageant which age limit is 27)

Still, we’d like to make a fierce wish of luck to our homegirl!!! WerK it!

Walking for Josie Natorie

It is also interesting to note that fellow Philippines’ Next Top Model Contestant Jenilyn Olivar also went for the screening.

Miss World-Philippines 2011

Just late last year, it was announced that the Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) lost the Miss World franchise to TV and Radio personality Cory Quirino who will now be heading the search for the Miss World-Philippines to represent the country in London for the Miss World 2011 that will be held sometime in November.

This was a very exciting news as Philippine pageant aficionados would buzz like crazy about this new national pageant that is said to be held sometime in September, a short three months before the international pageant. Also, we’ll get to see how this pageant would be different from it’s ex-franchise holder.

Miss World 2010 – Alexandria Mills of USA

Miss World Chairman, Julia Morley

We also gathered reports that Miss World Chairman Julia Morley and reigning Miss World Alexandria Mills of the United States will be visiting the country next week for the contract signing of the franchise agreement and some charity visits. This would be part of Miss Mills’ first international visit to the Asia Pacific countries including Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. So watch out for Miss Morley and the Miss World 2010 visit our beautiful country!
