Miss Philippines Earth 2012 Is Stephany Stefanowitz!

Last Sunday, the 22 year-old mestiza representing Quezon City bagged the coveted crown for Miss Philippines- Earth and won the rights to represent the country in this year’s Miss Earth Beauty Pageant that will be held on October in Indonesia.

The 5’10.5″ stunner represented Butuan City during the 2010 edition of the local Miss Earth pageant but was unable to clinch the crown that end up with  Kris Psyche Resus of Infanta Quezon who’s unplaced during the Miss Earth 2010.  This year however was a big comeback for Stefanowitz being able to secure the rights to represent Quezon City and wowing the panel of judges with her modelesque stance, sunny personality and natural conviction during the final interview.

The other winners are Miss Philippines Air 2012 –  Glennifer Perido (Tabuk City), Miss Philippines Water 2012 – Samantha Purvor (San Juan City), Miss Philippines Fire 2012 – Thoreen Halvorsen (Puerto Princesa City) and Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism 2012 – Candice Ramos (Vigan City)

Truly, Stephany is a great contender for this year’s Miss Earth crown! Will she be able to surpass Athena’s great finish from last year and eventually win the whole thing? Let’s see, though I just can’t wait to see her compete for the crown!

2012 Binibining Pilipinas Winners – Up Close and Not Too Personal!

So I was actually late at the venue and the male host Xian Lim just announced the winners of some special awards and right after was the announcement of the top 12 semifinalist. It was an easy call because my favorites were all called except for Jaine Hidalgo. I really wondered why? Hmmm. Anyways, I was very satisfied with most of the candidates answers during the Q and A portion with just a couple of ladies faltering in answering their questions – those were Liezl Alcantara who apparently “misheard” the question and Annalie Forbes who really had “an old fashion choking moment” but was allowed to answer beyond the 30 seconds limit. I thought she handled herself well and was still very poised. It was just surprising that she end-up winning 2nd runner-up with Elaine Kay Moll, the tallest candidate hailed as the first runner-up.

I actually predicted the two main winners correctly, that is Nicole Schmitz for Binibining Pilipinas – International and Katrina Dimaranan for Binibining Pilipinas- Tourism but I was in total awe when they annouced Janine Tugonon’s name as the successor for the Miss Universe – Philippines.  I mean, it was a bit expected since there were rumors that the title was already reserved for her but I really thought that crowd’s favorite MJ Lastimosa outshined her all through out the evening who is also a repeater of the pageant.

Anyways, it’s all good though. Janine still has about eight months to prepare for the Miss Universe and I’m hoping that she’ll represent our country as well as the other two in such a way that we could be proud of!

Good luck Ladies!

2012 Binibining Pilipinas Parade Of Beauties Snippets

Here are some of the pics that I took from this year’s  Binibining Pilipinas Parade Of Beauties that was held last Saturday, March 25 around Araneta Center, Cubao. This time though, the candidates are clad in some elegant one-piece bikinis which I thought are more appropriate compared to previous years where contestants are in two-piece skimpy bikinis. Kudos to the BBP team!

The Official Candidates Of The Binibining Pilipinas 2012

I know that the names and pictures of the candidates for this year’s Binibining Pilipinas have been posted all around the blogosphere but I thought of still posting ’em for reference. At first, I thought this year’s  such a disaster but after the girls got all glammed-up, it turned out to be another strong batch of hopefuls! Rumor has it that there’ll be five crowns at stake come coronation night. I would have to confirm that before I post any updates about the pageant 🙂

The 666 Victory Of Venezuela In The World Of Pageantry!

This year brought a devilishly sweet victory for Venezuela in the world of pageantry as they have accomplished a 666 victory from the three oldest and well-known beauty pageants in the world.

Ivian Sarcos who won the recently concluded Miss World beauty pageant in London was the country’s sixth win from the oldest pageant in the world. They had their first win back in 1955 when Susana Duijm became the first Venezuelan to win the title. It was followed by Pilin Leon after 26 years in 1981, the same year the country won the Miss Universe title by Irene Sáez who is also known for running the 1998 Presidency of her country.

Two years after this double victory, Astrid Carolina Herrera Irrazabal clinched the title back. In a period of five years from 1991-1995, two Venezuelans were crowned Miss World as Ninibeth Beatriz Leal Jiménez and Jacqueline Aguilera bagged the title in the 1991 and 1995 edition respectively. The country waited for 15 years to get their sixth title in which the 19-year old Ivian Sarcos successfully snagged from 112 other delegates!

At the Miss Universe pageant, who could forget the historical back-to-back win of the country in 2008 and 2009 when Dayana Mendoza crowned her fellow Venezuelan Stefania Fernandez in Bahamas.

It was in 1979 though, when the country got their first win when 18-year old Maritza Sayalero was crowned Miss Universe in Australia. Moreover, just after a year gap, Irene Saez won the crown followed by Bárbara Palacios Teyde in 1986 who won the title in Panama. In 1996 Alicia Machado dominated the pageant in Las Vegas. And then the historical back-to-back win happened that gave them their fifth and sixth win making them second winningest country in the pageant just after the United States with seven wins.

In Miss International, they held the true power as they have the most wins by far having successfully fielded six wins since 1985, a good 25 years since the pageant was created in Long Beach, California. It was Alejandrina “Nina” Sicilia Hernandez who bagged the first title for the country in the fall of 1985. After over a decade, Consuelo Adler brought the crown back to Venezuela.

The dawn of the new millennium was a good showing for the country in this pageant as they bagged four wins in its first decade. Vivian Urdaneta won the crown in 2000 followed by Goizeder Azúa in 2003. They got the crown back in 2006 proudly worn by Daniela Di Giacomo and just last year, Elizabeth Mosquera became the sixth winner of the top prize besting out 69 other candidates – the biggest turn out in the history of the competition.

Some of you may believe in 666 as the Number Of The Beast, I however don’t want to imply any negativity about these numbers in relation to these women. I merely want to express my admiration for these women who have achieved great feats in these three pageants that simply imply that they are the beast when it comes to the world of beauty pageantry!

Viva Venezuela!

Miss Malaysia, Deborah Henry As Miss Universe 2011?

It’s time for Miss Universe Fever once again and pageant fans all over the world are in oblivion on choosing who deserves to be named the queen of the universe. The 60th edition of the pageant will be staged this year at the beautiful São Paulo, Brazil.

One of those who first arrived in the country was Malaysia’s delegate Deborah Henry. Prior to the contestants’ arrival in Brazil, I’ve my thoughts on who can actually win the crown and I’ve this feeling that an Asian could actually win this year having such powerhouse beauties like Miss China’s Luo Zilin and Miss Philippines, Shamcey Supsup.

Malaysia has never produced a winner nor a runner-up at the Miss Universe pageant. The only time the country had a placement was during the 1970 Miss Universe when Josephine Lena Wong was first called a semi-finalist at that year’s edition.

Will Deborah finally get this one for Malaysia?

Let’s all find out on September 12 to see if Deborah has the Universe waiting for her reign!

Miss Venezuela Universe 2011 Vanessa Goncalvez – Another Marelisa Or Not?

After the disappointing performance of Marelisa Gibson last year at the 59th Edition of the Miss Universe, Can Vanessa redeem her country and place (and perhaps win) in this year’s pageant? After a back to back win for Venezuela in 2008 and 2009, the country failed to place into the top 15 last year, the first time since 2006 and it’s only the 23rd time that the country failed to be part of the semi-finals. There is a very high expectation for this Venezuelan beauty who competed as Miss Miranda at last year’s Miss Venezuela for a right to represent the country in the Miss Universe. Vanessa is a dentist by profession and is considered by many to be a strong contender for this year’s crown.

Looking at the pictures below, can she crack the semifinals this year or will she be another Marelisa Gibson? ( peace out, I don’t have anything against Miss Gibson )
