Meet The Contestants Of Philippines’ Next Top Model Cycle 1 (Rewind)

Since I love watching a few Next Top Model series (esp Australia, the US and Asia), I thought of posting The Philippines’ very own  version of the hit reality modeling competition. The first Philippines’ Next Top Model first aired in 2007 broadcasted by the now defunct RPN 9. It was hosted by Ruffa Guttierez and the judges includes Wilma Doesn’t, Pauline Sauco-Juan, Robby Carmona, Vince Uy and Xander Angeles. The winner of this cycle “won” a modeling representation with Starz People Hong Kong, an editorial fashion spread in Preview Magazine, US$10,000  c/o Mane and TailShampoo, a P150,000 modeling contract with SAGA Events, a one-year local endorsement campaign from L’Oreal Paris, one-year complimentary treatments from Marie France and Facial Care Center and a south sea pearl necklace  from Jewelmer, and the title “Jewelmer’s Amabassador to the World.” – that’s a whole lot of prize to be honest! Of course, we already know the winner of this so far “only” cycle of Philippines’ Next Top Model but won’t it be great to take a glimpse again of the photo shoots  our own version had? First, I present to you the name of the 14 finalists.

Philippines’ Next Top Models Grendel and Jenilyn Disqualified from Binibining Pilipinas 2011

After the official announcement of the 40 Official Candidates of this year Binibining Pilipinas, two of the front-runners were disqualified to continue their quest for the biggest pageant in the country. Philippines’ Next Top Model first and only winner (so far) Grendel Alvarado and PNTM 3rd placer Jenilyn Olivar were shockingly asked to leave the competition that will be held on April at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Binibining Pilipinas Organization has yet to release a statement regarding their disqualifications but such cases are not new to the pageant’s history. Some of the most noted disqualifications includes model and VJ Joey Mead in 2001 due to her age which is  27 – the maximum age required for the pageant then is 25. In 2004, Actress Juliana Palermo was not allowed to join the pageant because of her appearance in a sexy film and in 2009, front runner Sandra Seifert was disqualified from the competition two days before the coronation night due to her FHM pictorials . Seifert end up winning the rival pageant Miss Earth-Philippines and bagged the runner-up crown at the Miss Earth pageant of the same year.  These are some of the wasted Binibining Pilipinas aspirants who are said to have great potentials in the international pageants. Grendel Alvarado, Philippines’ Next Top Model Joins Binibining Pilipinas 2011!

Grendel Alvarado, the first and only (so far) winner of the Philippines’  Top Model franchise has join the biggest beauty pageant in the the country, the Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) in search for this year’s delegates to  International competitions such as the Miss Universe and the Miss International.

Apparently, this lass from Bacolod is still young enough to meet the pageant’s age requirement which is 25  . During the Top Model search in 2007, Grendel was already 22 years old which make her 25 around this time. Sure, there’ll be no problem on her catwalk and fierce look but the girl is too editorial in our opinion to make it in the Miss Universe if ever she’ll make it pass the Binibining Pilipinas screening.

(apparently, the organizer accepted her application despite being 26 as we speak thus her only chance to compete is at the Miss Universe Pageant which age limit is 27)

Still, we’d like to make a fierce wish of luck to our homegirl!!! WerK it!

It is also interesting to note that fellow Philippines’ Next Top Model Contestant Jenilyn Olivar also went for the screening.
