‘Just got home from watching the coronation night of the 18th Miss Earth edition where Nguyen Phuong Khanh of Vietnam was adjudged the ‘ultimate goddess of the Earth.’
Her Elemental court are: Miss Air Melanie Mader of Austria, Miss Water Valeria Ayos of Colombia and Miss Fire Melissa Flores of Mexico.
This edition is without its fair share of controversies the moment outgoing Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco passed the crown to Phuong Khanh.
Rumor has it that Miss Venezuela was supposed to be in the final four but she fainted backstage before the announcement and host James Deakin had to announce a replacement (supposedly the fifth place who is Miss Vietnam) to complete the top four. I personally call bullshit on this.
Vietnam was an all-around performer during the finale and she easily nailed both Q&A segments of the pageant with charm, sincerity and sense. I’d say she’s a deserving winner and such allegation should be put to rest right away.
And regardless if it’s true or not, Miss Venezuela fainted. The show isn’t going to wait for her to feel better. This show is broadcasted live and they have to follow a schedule. IF and only IF she was indeed in the top 4, they would have to exclude her and put the next girl with the highest score into the next round. Sorry, but this is what’s live television for you. Plus, the girls in the top 4 are very much deserving too. Shame on the President of Miss Earth Venezuela for releasing such information without the ME organization’s confirmation!
Congratulations to Miss Vietnam for winning the Miss Earth crown! Again, it was a well-deserved win! A big round of applause as well goes to the rest of the girls for giving a good fight!
To my favorite Telma Madeira of Portugal – you did your best and you made your country proud! I hope to see you competing in other international pageants like Miss Universe or Miss World in years to come ❤
To Celeste Cortesi – you are pure class and you represented the Philippines well! Thank you.
Congratulations to the Miss Earth organization and Carousel Productions for the wonderful show this year! ❤👏 Bravo!
I will be posting my full pledge review in the days to come! 😘
2017 has been an eventful year in the world of pageantry from the staging of the 65th Miss Universe pageant in Manila in January up to its homecoming in Las Vegas last November 26 and every minor and major pageants in between – it was whirlwind and almost chaotic for both pageant fans and pundits!
France took the Miss Universe crown ending its 63-year title drought.
In a sold-out Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines, you could hear the crowd clamoring for Haiti’s Raquel Pélissier to succeed the DCI crown from the outgoing Miss Universe, the Philippines’ very own Pia Wurtzbach but Iris Mittenare of France was just too strong a competitor to be denied. It was a well-deserved win after an impressive showing during the preliminaries and a flawless performance in the finals night. Iris was the rightful winner!
Rachel Peters is one of the frontrunners during this year’s Binibining Pilipinas and she was faultless during the finals night leaving the rest of the contestants vying for the lesser crowns.
Miss Earth 2017 is the Philippines!
Philippines winning the crown thrice in four years was mired with criticisms of it being rigged but truth be told, in a world full of mere beauties – having the brains to boot is a novelty that will be rewarded, given the right time.
Venezuela’s Ninoska Vasquez overperformed.
Ninoska was touted to be one of the two strongest delegates for the crown. She was perfection all throughout the pre-pageant night activities but fell short with her stage-presence during the finals. Rather, she may have done it a bit too much that left the judges uncomfortable?
Fahsai underwelhmed.
Along with the Venezuelan beauty, Paweesuda Drouin of Thailand nicknamed as Fahsai was expected to be part of the elemental court but during the crucial Final eight interview portion of the competition, she stumbled when she picked the hashtag Millenial possibly costing her the Miss Earth crown.
Karen Ibasco lorded over the heavy favorites!
The Philippines is almost always sending brainy girls in this pageant. That is the biggest asset of Karen Ibasco as the host nation as she set on reclaiming the crown back to our home turf.
She may not be the most conventionally beautiful girl in the bunch but the girl does eat mic for breakfast and only reads the dictionary. Hah! Kidding aside, Karen was untouchable after the final 8 interview.
The Muy Caliente performance of Teresita Marquez at the Reina Hispanoamericana!
It was the debut participation of the Philippines and sending Teresita Marquez was perhaps the wisest decision from the organizer of the Miss World Philippines under its new national director – Arnold Vegafria.
Terestita also known as WinWyn Marquez was unstoppable in Bolivia so it’s very easy to see why she won the pageant becoming the very first Asian to do so!
Kevin Lilliana was the main frontrunner from the get go of the competition and it’s no wonder that she end up giving her country its first win in a major beauty competition!
The Worst Staging of Miss Universe in History!
Aside from its rather simple pre-pageant activities and the horrendous preliminary competition inside a hotel, the 66th edition of the pageant was nothing to write home about. It’s probably the worst staging of the pageant that I could remember!
After a stellar performance all throughout the night, Jamaica’s Davina Bennett who sported an afro was denied the crown, only winning third overall. Despite strong showing, it seems like the competition was already pre-determined to be all about Demi-Leigh Peters of South Africa.
via Miss Universe Facebook page.
Overall, I’m satisfied with the winners of each respective major pageants and I hope to see more competitive girls in 2018!
This year’s Miss Earth heroines are probably in the top 3 of the strongest girls to ever compete in this pageant. It was so difficult to pinpoint up to this stage who’s actually the number one front runner in the bunch. Most of them are worthy to be proclaimed this year’s Miss Earth and her equally important elemental queens.
But decisions has to be made and I’ve only come up with the 8 beauties whom I think has the best chance of making it this Saturday, November 4 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Top 8-5 8. Vietnam – Le Thi Ha Thu 7. Russia – Lada Akimova 6. Philippines – Karen Ibasco 5. Thailand – Paweensuda Drouin
♠♣♥♦
Miss Earth-Fire goes to Miss Puerto Rico – Karla Victoria Aponte
Her modelesque bearing and unassuming demeanor are two of the things that endeared her to pageant fans all over the world and she happens to be a very good speaker as well so I won’t be surprised if she actually end up usurping the winner come finals night. For now though, I’m placing her in the fourth spot as Miss Earth – Fire.
Miss Earth Water goes to Miss Colombia – Juliana Franco
Juliana’s statuesque beauty is something that no judges could ignore in this edition. She’s like the Miss Prim and Proper of Miss Earth and her beauty alone could catapult her into the top. And yes, it’s crazy impressive that she’s super smart as well!
Miss Earth Air goes to Miss Venezuela – Ninoska Vasquez
Ninoska is probably my favorite this year because she’s a hardworking contestant. She came here to win and this girl won’t let her chance to grab the crown this Saturday slip away so easily. For now, I am placing this charming Venezuelan as my first runner-up or the Miss Earth Air.
My Miss Earth 2017 is none other than Miss Netherlands – Faith Landman
Her youthful appearance and striking eyes are definitely her biggest pull but when she opens her mouth, it’s evident that she knows what she’s talking about. She’s one of the perennial favorites this year and it wasn’t easy placing her in the top because all of my top 4 are deserving of the title IMHO but after some deliberation,Faith just shot to the top of my list!
Who do you think should win Miss Earth?

Miss Vietnam Lê Thị Hà Thu along with Juliana Franco of Colombia and Venezuela’s Ninoska Vasquez are the top 3 online vote getters for the Miss Photogenic award this year at the on-going Miss Earth beauty pageant in Manila.
The three winners are amongst the favorite this year to win the title! Will they be able to capitalize on this win this coming Saturday for the grand coronation night?
Their looks during the pre-judging of beauty of face and poise.
Now, this is what you call a National Costume! This is probably the best Filipiniana-inspired costume by any of our past and present representative in the international pageant arena! Karen looks absolutely breathtaking in it!
This intricate costume is the creation of Louis Pangilinan. I’m not very familiar with his work but I can already tell that I’m gonna be following his works from now on.
After the disappointing performance and attitude of Miss Philippines Imelda Schweigart last year, Manileña Karen Ibasco is all set to reversed the bad impression the embattled Schweigart left after she suffered diarrhea of the mouth and was eventually forced to resign her title, leaving the country subsequently.
87 countries are battling to become the ultimate Earth warrior and the Philippine rep is doing pretty well winning the swimsuit round in her group. Now, she needs your help for her to win a the Miss Photogenic award in the finals night on the 4th of November at the Mall of Asia Arena by voting for her via Miss Earth official Facebook Page. CLICK HER IMAGE.
This is a very strong batch and Karen knows that so she needs to bring her A-game every single time!
Does she have what it takes to become the Miss Earth 2017! Hell yeah!!!
