Book Review: Macarons At Midnight – M.J. O’Shea & Anna Martin

23209132I’ve read this a few days after its release in October and tried to reread it this month – I always love me some cute story from M.J. O’Shea. This one though she co-wrote with Anna Martin, author of the Tattoos & Another Way series. I just loved this book! It’s just cuteness overload!!! It’s about Tristan Green, an English lad who landed in Manhattan for a job at a high profile ad agency. Unable to get a life out of his mundane routine, he found himself meandering over Henry Livingston’s bakery one night. Henry is the owner of a cutesy bakery and was also a renegade child who grew up in the Upper East Side but got so fed up so he decided to ditch his “old money” family and be a baker.  It started as a taste-testing flirting that developed into a sweet and oh-sexy romance that may just be the one thing that they both needed. All things crumbled, though, when Tristan’s work made him do something that could end all ties with Henry.

Don’t you just love reading an easy, breezy story that’ll leave you giddy and smiling from ear to ear after? That’s what I felt like after reading this book non-stop. Just effortlessly non-stop. Tristan and Henry are both lovely characters carved from the chic-flick mold. They’re just lovely and Tristan’s accent – really, I could hear it in my head!  I just love the easy chemistry between these two and how the story just stayed low-key all throughout without making it overly dramatic what with all the family and work fiasco involved. This is a really good book to pass the time – I usually say this when the book’s not really worth your precious time but this book IS worth it and would be a great company whilst relaxing and getting all cozy at your reading nook.

About The Authors
Anna Martin is from a picturesque seaside village in the south west of England. After spending most of her childhood making up stories, she studied English Literature at university before attempting to turn her hand as a professional writer.

Apart from being physically dependent on her laptop, she is enthusiastic about writing and producing local grassroots theatre (especially at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where she can be found every summer), travelling, learning to play the ukulele, and Ben & Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk.

Anna claims her entire career is due to the love, support, pre-reading and creative ass-kicking provided by her closest friend Jennifer. Jennifer refuses to accept any responsibility for anything Anna has written.

M.J. O’Shea has been writing romance since algebra class in sixth grade (when most of her stories starred her and Leonardo DiCaprio). When she’s not writing, she loves listening to nearly all types of music, painting, reading great authors, and on those elusive sunny days in the Pacific Northwest, she loves driving on the freeway with her windows rolled down and her stereo on high.

Book Review: One Small Thing – Piper Vaugn & M.J. O’Shea

At first, I thought this is one of those books that I’d hate so much but it was actually surprisingly good! The MC’s (Rue & Erik) here are just uber-adorable! Rue is the sexy bar tender that had a sexperiment with some girl and after nine months, he’s got Alice to take care of! Erik on the other hand is a sci-fi writer who really doesn’t like socializing at all. He’s got his own cocoon and is suffering from OCD and anxiety disorder. Due to unavoidable circumstances, they somehow collided with each other that led to a rather unexpected twist of fate. The question is if they can leave all their issues behind to build a new life as a family?

First, I have to commend the editing of this book! It’s perfect! It’s fast paced without getting the feel of it being rushed. The alternating point of views from both MC’s is also great. I’m also glad that the “coming out” part of this book was perfectly presented by the authors. It’s just all so adorable especially with Erik’s character. You see, I’m down with any characters who love Star Wars! Haha. Dorky characters rules!!!!

I’m glad that I came upon this book. It’s fresh, well written and has a superb story to boot!

Book Review: Catch My Breath – M.J. O’Shea

17798654When Danny Bright and four other guys are put together in a boy band, his dream of becoming a singing star seems to be within his reach. He and the shy Elliot Price were the closest in the group, a closeness that blossomed into something they have not expect to find while starting out their careers. This however was discovered by their management resulting to a barrage of lies, deception and cover-ups which put a strain in their relationship – with money as the bottom-line of it all.

I’ve to say that this is by far my most favorite novel by M.J. O’Shea. It’s beautifully written with amazing and interesting characters, very characters and the feels – romantic as hell.

Danny and Elliot are sweet and delightful as a couple. It almost hurt to see them being restraint from declaring their love in the open. I loved how the author made a pretty current and realistic approach in dealing with gay issues involving the couple. I wished, though, that there’s more backstory regarding Danny. I feel like Katie’s [His girlfriend] his only “background” connection and his “wealthy” upbringing. Elliot on the other hand is perfect in every sense. I love his naïve views which totally coincide with his shy and sweet persona.

And don’t get me started with Webb, Reece and Tate. [Danny and Elliot’s bandmates] They’re a bucketful of sweethearts! I was hoping that Webb may not be straight at all and he’d be paired with Chris Collins (a second book perhaps?). Oh well, that’s just me daydreaming. I’d love for such a spin-off to really happen!!! *keeping my fingers crossed*

So there you go folks, if you’re up for some sweet, bubblegum pop romantic story – I guess this one’s the right fix for you. >_@

Book Review: Bridges – M.J. O’Shea

[Free novelette written for the M/M Romance group’s “Hot Summer Days” event. ]

20338332Brooklyn and Dallas. How can you go wrong with these names? Mortal enemies since third grade, these two finally came around after graduating from high school and discovered that aside from all the fighting and bickering they’ve been doing all their lives, there’s actually something beautiful that they could share with each other.
This was just toothy – sweety all throughout and I totally loved it. I loved both characters and thought that their antics are just oh-so-cute. I wouldn’t mind a longer story and a bit of a conflict but hey, life’s short and sweet right?
