Review: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011)

I was never truly a big fan of this franchise but I am always fascinated to watch each movie. I have never even read the books so I rely solely on IMDB, Wikipedia and the movies itself of course.

I have seen the part one of the Deathly Hallows last year but I fell asleep halfway thru the movie. For some reason, I just slept and woke up during the credits. A big epic fail for me, I know.

This time though, Harry Potter’s final film left a big impression on me that I am now considering on finally reading the books! This finale was perfectly created to leave something for its fans that would truly stay with them forever.

Harry, Ron and Hermionie were all so grown up here that you feel so attached to them watching them grow over the years that you feel like crying when the end credits started rolling.

The visuals are exemplary, the score – we all know how uniquely good it was and of course, the actors are simply superb.

This film though gave a very special homage to Severus Snape who had been one of the villains of this movie series from the start but his character was the perfect example of true redemption! His scenes really made me cry.

The magic, spells, the side characters all made this film a worthwhile film to really enjoy! And ofcourse the ending of Harry’s story will always live on as this franchise come to its end, it just gained a new fan in me.

Review: The King’s Speech Is My Best Picture! (2011)

On DVD

Director: Tom Hooper

Starring: Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham-Carter

I’ve seen this film for a couple of times now this year and those times that I’ve watched it made me like Colin Firth even more. The guy’s a genius and deserves all the accolades that he’s gotten so far from this film.

The story is basically about King George VI of England (Firth) overcoming his speech impediment (stammer) with the help of his speech therapist Lionel Logue played by Geoffrey Rush. This true story was quite simple to begin with, Tom Hooper who directed the film was able to accomplish that period era vibe and pulled the greatness out of Firth, Rush and Bonham-Carter.

Firth’s stutter is very much convincing in every scenes. He’s also very much adorable as a very intimidated Duke and a loving father and husband. I love the part when he was telling a story to his kids.

Geoffrey Rush was such a delight to watch all through out the film. He embodies the characteristics of a unconventional therapist/teacher and you will really believe him.

Helena Bonham-Carter played a very refreshing Duchess / Queen as well. I’m not used to seeing her act normal but in this film, she really did pull it off. She’s such a darling to watch and very lovable for that matter.

I’m not surprised at all that these three got the nods of the Academy for they all played their role in such a manner that you would want to repeat the film over and over to see them again.

With that being said, I declare this film my Best Picture of 2010 with Firth as my Oscar’s Best Actor.

2011 Oscars Worst Dressed!

Nicole Kidman came tonight in a white embroidered Dior Couture gown. We’re completely speechless. We don’t know what to make of Nicole anymore. What happened to you girl????? We don’t want to do this but we have to. You are our Ultimate Worst Dressed. Sorry Nic…

Hailee Steinfeld -Don’t get us wrong. We love Hailee, I mean she’s all sweet and pretty but we’re not feeling this Marchesa gown for her. It’s just too Prom-ish…

Hilary Swank in a sequined and feathered strapless Gucci Premiere gown. We’ve seen this worn by a couple or three celebs in the red carpet. Sorry Hilary, we’re not buying it this time. So 2000 and late.

Helena Bonham Carter is wearing a creation from costume designer Colleen Atwood. We love her originality but that’s just it. That dress is a costume!

Sandra Bullock in a strapless Vera Wang gown

Yes, Sandra you’re funny and all but this doesn’t work for you. We still have the vivid memory of your Golden Globe’s hair. Atleast the bangs are gone –kudos to you girl!

Sharon Stone was wearing a feathered piece Black Swan inspired gown. *mum*

Host Ann Hathaway chose to wear a vintage Valentino gown for the red carpet. She had several outfit changes in the night. We’re counting on the red carpet dress, Anne. Sorry.

Halle Berry in a tulle gown by Marchesa. Snoozefest….photos via zimbio.com

2011 SAG Awards Worst Dressed!

Nicole Kidman

We’re so frustrated to see Nicole in the red carpet looking sham once again! I mean seriously, we almost didnt notice her and when we did –we’re like. BLEH. So,we’re declaring her the worst of the night!FYI: she’s wearing a Nina Ricci dress.Nicole Kidman

***

Winona Ryder

This white Alberta Ferretti Dress would have been perfect for her if not for the black evening purse. Seriously, we don’t get the white theme she’s trying to deliver. FAIL.

Tina Fey

We usually love Tina Fey but not tonight and definitely not in this Oscar de la Renta gown!

Helena Bonham Carter

She definitely toned it down from the last time but we still don’t get it. This Marc Jacobs gown doesn’t really appeal to us. Kudos for the matching shoes tho.

Jenna Ushkowitz

I’m sure she didn’t get the Glee Girls Memo along with Naya Rivera, this Badgley Mischka gown is just way over the top for us!

Naya Rivera

This body-skimming Aurellio Costarella dress does not really compliment her body! damn! She should’ve look in the mirror first!

Marisa Hargitay

Another Oscar de la Renta disaster –nope, it’s not about the dress hun’

Christina Hendricks

Just another day in the office –wearing a L’Wren Scott –girl can’t really cover it up well!

Edie Falco

We love Edie Falco in Nurse Jackie but not in this Carolina Herrera dress. please.

Amy Adams

We’re half-hearted in this Herve L Leroux gown so we’re putting it in the middle of the best and worst.

2011 Golden Globes Worst Dressed!

The Awards Season is always an exciting time to root for our favorite TV and movie personalities and spot the latest trends that the stars are parading into the red carpet. This year’s Golden Globes proved to be another hit for a lot of our celebrities while some just missed it for this very special night in Hollywood. With that being said, we’d like to honor our best and named our worst dressed celebrities wearing the biggest fashion designers in the world.

For this edition, we’ll be naming our worst dressed of the night and the best dressed will follow shortly on another post.

Christina Aguilera

This Zuhair Murad gown is stunning but Christina wearing it was a big oopsy. Xtina reminds us of Snooki –separated at birth?

Julianne Moore

We hearts most Lanvin stuff and we love you Julianne but what are you wearing? a pink shield on your shoulder?

Sandra Bullock

Sandy, don’t be blindsided that we’ll not notice you just because you won the Oscar last year –this Jenny Packham dress deserved a better do!

Helena Bonham – Carter

I wonder if she’s channeling the designer of this dress? Vivienne Westwood could easily pull this dress than you Miss Carter!

Christina Hendricks

Boo for Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks for looking like a flower decoration at the awards night. Oh, for the credits –she’s wearing a Romona Keveza Gown.

Halle Berry

This Nina Ricci’s piece doesn’t really speak to us a something that would make Halle stand out. It made her unnoticeable.

ready for a Snoozefest?

Nicole Kidman in Prada.

Michelle Williams in Valentino.

Megan Fox in Armani Prive

Dianne Agron in a J.Mendel strapless dress.
